The Anglican Church of Bermuda is celebrating the appointment of four people to key roles; Revd. Thomas Nisbett Jr,  Revd. Carl Williams,  Audley Quallo and Wendy Harvey.

A spokesperson said, “As we celebrate the one year anniversary of the ordinations of three Bermudian priests, the Anglican Church of Bermuda is delighted to share four new appointments of Bermudians within the Church which have been formally announced this week. This comes after a year in which we lost two dedicated pioneers of the Church, Canon Thomas Nesbitt and Canon Jim Francis, whose memory we honour and revere.

“Firstly, we are also thrilled to announce that the eldest son of Canon Nesbitt, the Revd. Thomas Nisbett, Jr. has been appointed as the Priest- in-Charge in St. George’s overseeing St. Peter’s Church and the Chapel of Ease in St. David’s. Revd. Thomas, Jr spent some of his formative years in this parish when his father was an Associate Minister at the Chapel of Ease, with very fond memories of living in that tight knit community.

“After a time in business he was ordained and has been a priest in good standing in the Anglican Parish of Newcastle-Nelson-Hardwicke in the Diocese of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, where, in addition to growing the congregations where he serves, he was also on the Task Force for Racial Justice in that Diocese. It will be good to welcome him home with his wife, Colleen. They will start this new ministry after Easter in the New Year.

“Prior to that, however we are also excited to announce that the Revd. Carl Williams has been appointed to the post of Priest-in-Charge of the parish of St. Mary’s the Virgin, in Warwick. With the overwhelming support of both the selection committee and the Vestry of the parish, this announcement made on Sunday was accompanied by a round of applause by the members of the Church.

“Fr. Carl is married to Melinda, who grew up in the parish. In the New Year they will be living in the Rectory in order to be present and available for the ongoing growth of the ministry in Warwick. It is intended that he should commence his work as priest-in-charge from Sunday 15th December onwards. However, due to the pressures of the season, his actual formal service of installation will occur on Wednesday 8th January, 2025 at 7:00 pm to which all are invited.

“Fr. Carl brings with him a pastor’s heart and a desire to be an engaged and active priest in the local community. Fr. Carl is also a member of the Synod Standing Committee and the Chair of the Racial Justice Committee of Synod. In some senses this appointment marks our continued commitment to the eradication of racial prejudice and discrimination in our community and for our leadership to better reflect the community they serve.

“In addition we are delighted to have appointed a new Registrar of the Diocese, who is one of two legal officers whose ministry it is to advise the Bishop, Archdeacon, Incumbents, Vestries and committees of the Church on legal matters amongst other things. Mr. Audley Quallo was appointed to his role at a meeting of the Synod on the 30th November and was installed in post at a special service at the Cathedral on Wednesday 11th December. As Registrar, Audley will work closely with Mr Robert Alexander, the Chancellor of the Diocese and he brings a keen legal mind and youthful enthusiasm to this role.

“And finally, in the Bishop’s office, we are excited that Wendy Harvey has been hired as the Executive Assistant to the Bishop and the Diocesan Office. With her warmth of personality, servant hearted demeanour and wealth of experience she brings stability and keen administrative skills to the hub of the Anglican Church.

“We extend to all of these appointees and their families the warmest welcome. The Diocese, and indeed the whole of the Anglican Church, will benefit from this new cohort of faithful servants of Jesus in their varied roles and responsibilities.”
