Antonio Pierce Coaching, Season & More

With the NFL regular season winding down, there are a handful of coaches around the league who are coaching for their jobs in the final few weeks.

Among those on the proverbial hot seat is Las Vegas Raiders’ first-year head coach Antonio Pierce, the son of Bermudian Cleo Burrows, who was appointed head coach of the Raiders in January.

Pierce’s Raiders have endured a dreadful season with them currently in line for the first pick in next year’s college draft, which is awarded to the franchise with the league’s worst record.

A stunning early season victory over the highly rated Baltimore Ravens promised only to deceive, as the team fell into a nine-game freefall that they are still trying to end.

There were high hopes initially when the Raiders finished 5-4 under Pierce as the interim coach a year ago, but the situation has devolved into a 2-11 disaster.

Pierce’s performance as the franchise’s sideline leader has come in for severe scrutiny and while some may believe that extenuating circumstances will save the former Super Bowl hero’s job, no amount of rationalization explains away how the Las Vegas Raiders have failed to execute this season.

Another disappointing loss occurred last Sunday when they fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a score of 28-13 at Raymond James Stadium. This week they will be home inside Allegiant Stadium, where they square off against the Atlanta Falcons as one of the two matchups on a Monday Night Football doubleheader.
