BermudAir Earns Autism Double-Checked Status
BermudAir has earned Autism Double-Checked certification, saying this is a “significant step in fostering an inclusive travel environment.”
A spokesperson said, “Underscoring its commitment to exceptional service for all travellers, including those in the autism community, BermudAir is proud to announce that it has achieved Autism Double-Checked certification. This milestone comes as BermudAir reflects on its first year of operation, during which the airline prioritised enhancing its customer service experience.
“Per the US Centers for Disease Control’s most recent study [2023], an astonishing one-in-36 children is born with autism spectrum disorder [ASD]. By ensuring that 100% of its employees completed specialised autism awareness and sensitivity training, BermudAir has taken a significant step in fostering an inclusive travel environment. The airline’s certification demonstrates its dedication to creating stress-free and accessible journeys for travellers with autism and their families.
“Since 2015, US-based Autism Double-Checked [ADC] has been a trailblazer in the travel industry, dedicated to ensuring that individuals with autism and their families can travel with confidence and ease. Through its comprehensive certification programs, the organisation works with airlines, hotels, and airports to enhance autism readiness across the travel experience. Their three-tier system emphasises a progressive commitment to inclusivity, equipping industry professionals with essential tools and training to better accommodate the unique needs of travellers on the autism spectrum.”
“Achieving ADC certification is a meaningful accomplishment for BermudAir as we continue to refine the experience we offer all our guests,” said Adam Scott, CEO & Founder of BermudAir. “We’re proud of our team’s dedication to fostering an inclusive environment for all travellers. Through our partnership with Autism Double-Checked, we look forward to amplifying support for the global autism community and making a positive impact that extends beyond the skies.”
The spokesperson said, “In addition to this certification, BermudAir is proud to announce its support for Tomorrow’s Voices, a local organisation dedicated to autism awareness and early intervention. Tomorrow’s Voices is Bermuda’s leading autism centre, providing essential services and support to individuals and families within the autism community. BermudAir will collaborate with the organisation to amplify its impact and help empower Bermuda’s autism community.”
Dr. Jahnae Harvey, Executive Director at Tomorrow’s Voices expressed, “I am excited that BermudAir has achieved this important milestone. By striving to create an autism-friendly travel experience, BermudAir is setting a standard for inclusive travel. We look forward to collaborating with BermudAir to continue fostering awareness and accessibility for individuals with autism and their families.”
As both a parent and advocate for autism awareness and inclusion, Thea Furbert, Co-founder and Board Chair of Tomorrow’s Voices, communicated, “I commend BermudAir for their commitment to ensuring autism awareness and training are part of their operations.
“This initiative will create a ripple effect, positively impacting not only individuals diagnosed with autism but also their families. Incorporating sensitivity and autism awareness into their training process is a significant step towards a more inclusive travel experience for all. We look forward to this ongoing partnership with BermudAir as we educate, empower, and serve those with Neurodiverse needs in the Bermuda community.”
The spokesperson said, “In addition to Tomorrow’s Voices’ support of the ADC certification, BermudAir is pleased to announce that the Fairmont Southampton will become the island’s first hotel to pledge that its staff will undergo the ADC training. Bermuda Skyport also joins the efforts in embracing this important initiative to create a more inclusive travel experience for all.
