Cannonier Watson, Tucker & Minors Honoured
The Bermuda Arts Council celebrated the achievements of 2024 Student Grant recipients Johnae Tucker, Honor Minors, and Vidya Cannonier Watson.
A spokesperson said, “These talented young women are blazing trails in the performing arts, having secured places at prestigious institutions including the London School of Musical Theatre, the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and the Tring Park School for the Performing Arts in the UK.
“Their success highlights the role of the arts in preserving and enriching Bermuda’s cultural heritage and the Bermuda Arts Council is proud to support these endeavours. Chair of the Bermuda Arts Council, Shanna Hollis, stated that the Bermuda Arts Council is proud to contribute to the artistic and professional journey of Vidya Cannonier Watson, Johnae Tucker, and Honor Minors.”
She said, “Congratulations on receiving the 2024 Bermuda Arts Council Student Grant. Your acceptance into the Tring School for the Performing Arts, the London School of Musical Theatre, and the Boston Conservatory at Berklee reflects your incredible talent and dedication to your art forms. Supporting creatives like you is vital for the future of Bermuda’s artistic community, as it nurtures the next generation of artists who will shape and share our beautiful cultural identity with the world. Your achievements are a source of pride for our island, and we eagerly anticipate the impact you will make on the global stage and our shores.”
Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sport Owen Darrell, commended the awardees in their pursuit of excellence, stating, “The arts are a cornerstone of our cultural identity, and these remarkable young women are setting an inspiring example for all Bermudians, particularly the next generation of women aspiring to lead in performance industries. Johnae, Honor, and Vidya, we support you and celebrate your achievements. On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, I wish you continued success on your journey.”
The spokesperson said, “The three women were awarded student grants toward their studies ranging from $5000 – $10,000.”
“The Bermuda Arts Council exists to champion our island’s creatives, whether they are just beginning their journey or already established,” said Deputy Chair, Sajni Toleram. “These grants are more than financial assistance—they are an investment in Bermuda’s artistic future, helping to build a vibrant and sustainable arts community.
