Sam Bennett Wins Diving Award In Vegas
Bermudian Sam Bennett, the founder of EcoDive, has been honoured for his outstanding contributions to growing the diving community in Bermuda.
His efforts were recognised at the Diving Equipment and Marketing Association [DEMA] Show, recently held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
EcoDive, a Scuba Diving International [SDI] training and certification centre, was established by Bennett nearly two years ago.
Since then, the centre has played a vital role in expanding the reach of SDI on the island, fostering a thriving diving community.
Bennett received his award from SDI, with Jesse Iacona, the organisation’s director of business development for the Americas and Caribbean, commending his achievements.
“His dedication and perseverance have established a foothold for the agency on the island and fostered an active community of local SDI professionals,” Iacona said.
“These significant contributions deserve special recognition, and we are proud to have him as part of our family!”
Expressing his gratitude, Bennett credited the local diving community for their support.
“I was going to the convention to reconnect and talk to some manufacturers and try and get some more interest in diving in Bermuda,” he told Bernews.
“To be recognised internationally was an honour. It just shows that the agency [SDI] I’m working with appreciates the work we’re doing internationally.”
The 28-year-old also reflected on EcoDive’s growth over the past year.
“The last year has been phenomenal,” Bennett added “I was pretty much booked out for the entire summer teaching courses and doing excursions.”
