Jonté Smith Reflects On Cricket Dreams

Jonté Smith, the Bermuda national team cricketer, said it has been a “dream” to become a dual international after helping the island’s cricket team win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Sub Regional Qualifier in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Bermuda topped the qualifying table after winning six of their seven matches to advance to the next stage.
Their opening game against Argentina was abandoned because of a wet outfield, with the teams sharing the points.
Smith, the son of former Bermuda captain and coach Clay Smith, previously represented Bermuda at cricket at the under-15 level before pursuing a career as a professional footballer.
The 30-year-old, who has played as a striker for the Bermuda national football team, wrote on social media: “The last time I represented Bermuda in cricket was 15 years ago and it’s always been a dream of mine to play for my country at the senior level.
“Over the last few years, I set myself the goal of breaking into this team.
“It’s taken a lot of hard work and dedication to get here, but I’m so glad I stayed disciplined chasing after my dreams.
“Few people will know how much playing in this tournament really meant to me, and to win the tournament on top of that is everything I could have hoped for.
“I’m thankful for everyone who helped me turn this dream into reality.”
Smith, who plays domestic football for North Village, has played professionally for Crawley Town, Oxford United and Cheltenham Town in England.
He has represented St George’s in Cup Match.
