Cactus And Kim Swan Launch Golf Initiative
Kim Swan, the island’s most decorated golfer, and Cactus Ltd, a local tech firm, have partnered to help introduce golf to students at two public schools.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Port Royal Golf Course, James Robinson, the chief executive for Cactus and former golf student of Swan, donated to junior golf development.
It was agreed the donation would go towards Dalton Tucker Primary and East End Primary, with former professional golfer Swan coaching students keen to learn the game.
School principals, Ms Shanda Simmons of Dalton Tucker Primary and Ms Julie Foggo, of East End Primary, welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude to Cactus Ltd and Mr Swan for their contribution.
Dalton Tucker’s golf alumni include Dwayne Pearman, Cornell Bean, Glenn Simmons, Darron Swan, Darren Woods, Camiko Smith and Mr Swan.
Meanwhile, East End Primary has previously invited Mr Swan and top local player Camiko Smith to the school to teach golf in PE as part of an initiative endorsed by Port Royal’s late general manager Greg Maybury Sr, who was the head boy at the school in 1966-67.
“Dalton Tucker Primary and East End Primary Schools were identified as the two schools to participate in the junior golf outreach initiative,” Swan said.
“Both schools are neighbours of two of Bermuda’s important golf courses – Port Royal Golf Course and Five Forts Golf Course – are near and dear to my heart and an integral part of our community.”
Mr Robinson, the Cactus chief executive, said: “I am deeply grateful to Kim Swan for his unwavering dedication to teaching golf to new players.
“He encouraged me to play the game when others would have steered me toward almost anything else. I love golf and living proof that you can enjoy the game even with zero natural ability.
“Since moving to Bermuda, golf has been a wonderful way to make great friends and build connections. I’m delighted that my company, Cactus, can contribute to junior golf development.

“When discussing this initiative with Kim, it became clear that even a modest donation to the two schools most dear to him, East End Primary and Dalton Tucker Primary Schools, could have a tremendous impact when paired with his generously offered time and infectious enthusiasm.”
