“President Carter’s commitment to human rights, diplomacy over conflict, and the fight against poverty both during and after his presidency, transformed countless lives and set a powerful example of servant leadership.

In a statement today, the Carter Center said, “Jimmy Carter, 39th president of the United States and winner of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize, died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 29, at his home in Plains, Georgia, surrounded by his family. He was 100, the longest-lived president in U.S. history.

“President Carter is survived by his children — Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosalynn, and one grandchild.

“My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love,” said Chip Carter, the former president’s son. “My brothers, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”

“There will be public observances in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., followed by a private interment in Plains, Georgia. The final arrangements for President Carter’s state funeral, including all public events and motorcade routes, are still pending.”

    On that we can agree.

I agree to disagree. Carter was a very nice man and very intelligent with a degree in Nuclear Physics—but a lousy president, as evidenced by his huge loss to Ronald Reagan. I shook hands with Carter in June 1980, at the American Embassy in Rome. Years later, Jimmy and his SS detail would stop in a bar on the outskirts of Atlanta now and then. It was an inside joke when the guys in dark suits wearing sunglasses would walk in and do a walkthrough before giving Jimmy the OK to come inside. He was always open to speaking with people in the bar.

Don’t forget the 1978 Camp David accord between Egypt and Isreal, an accord that is still in place today.

That would be between two countries where one country, Israel, kicked Egypt’s behind in the Six Day War, right? Say, don’t forget all the American hostages who were held captive by the Iranians in two US Embassy takeovers, which is an act of war – two times. Did Jimmy go to war with Iran? (trick question) 52 hostages for 444 days in the second takeover, and I was almost one of them. Several of my friends and co-workers were beaten so badly that they are still collecting disability. But they made the cover of magazines like Newsweek before the beatings. Yes, I have very fond memories of Jimmy. Let’s not forget giving away the Panama Canal just to feel good and his poor economic policies. Let’s not forget that Iran has been the #1 sponsor of terrorism in the world for decades along with all the death and destruction caused by their proxies. Let’s not forget China’s influence in controlling the Panama Canal. Panama was the first Latin American country to join the Belt and Road Initiative. China controls two of the five port zones. No problems there, right? As I said, Jimmy was a nice guy but a lousy president.
