December 9, 2024 | 4 Comments

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner [PrivCom] announced the launch of the ‘Know Your Rights’ campaign to educate individuals about privacy rights and the upcoming January 2025 implementation of PIPA.

A spokesperson said, “The Office of the Privacy Commissioner [PrivCom] is proud to announce the launch of the ‘Know Your Rights’ Campaign; a national effort to educate individuals about their privacy rights and provide practical tips on safeguarding personal information ahead of the 1 January 2025 implementation date of the Personal Information Protection Act 2016 [PIPA].

“As part of the ‘Know Your Rights’ Campaign, PrivCom staff will be engaging directly with the public at various community locations. PrivCom invites you to join us at The MarketPlace grocery stores in the city of Hamilton, Victoria Street, Heron Bay, Somerset and Shelly Bay on Tuesday, December 10, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, where our team will be distributing informational fliers and noting any suggestions for engaging with the public.

“In addition to this in-person initiative, the ‘Know Your Rights’ Campaign will include the public circulation of a flier that will be delivered by mail to households across the island later in December. The flier shall include vital information regarding:

  • Understanding the rights of individuals under PIPA;
  • Insight into organisations’ obligations and responsibility for use of personal information under PIPA; and
  • How to report situations where you suspect your privacy rights have not been upheld.”

“Privacy is a fundamental right, and in the era of digital technology, it is critical for individuals to know how to protect their personal information,” said Angie Farquharson, Acting Privacy Commissioner. “This campaign is designed to make privacy rights information accessible in order to empower individuals to be in control of their own personal information.”

The spokesperson said, “PrivCom encourages all members of the community to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about their rights and how to exercise them.

“For more information about your privacy rights, please visit our website at www.privacy.bm or contact us at 441-543-7748.”

For over half a century i have yet to se what colour ink was used to write Bermuda constitution is written on paper or parchment or card board or if the document exists at all .

May be is not what they want you to see.
then again there is no future if we continue to live in the past.

I can imagine that the new ways to day we got cars which are are better than the old ways when back then the wealthy had horses and peddle bikes now we can watch horses on T.V.

From time to time there has been some changes in the voting procedures as there used to be M.C.P. ‘s. running the show they did it all for no pay or if the country did well they did ok many did not need it or want it.

No fast air planes then we had the Queen of Bermuda hat brought people and food .

Now we have 36 hard working M.P.s not that easy as that appears on the surface .

        Mr. Bloggs.

Unfortunately the full Bermuda constitution was missing as that only appeared as a heading on the list . Realy. Aparantly the original of that document is in the UK .

Not many who are enthuiastic about of reading all that , the laws of the land are compulsory reading or you could find your self living in another mans chicken house or rabbit run .

Many years ago i found a document that had 25 people listed as property owners of a single lot of land just prior to an election time .
People had to own land and be part of the fabric of Bermuda to vote.
The constitution came as a listing then disapeared as a fly away and went woosh ! whoosh !
        Thank your for your time.
How many people know that money goes woosh on Mondays .
We sure have a pile of laws to guide us by.
