Scott Barnes launched his quest for a fourth consecutive title in the Skusa Winter Series with a dominant performance at the Orlando Kart Centre in Orlando, Florida, last weekend.

The Bermudian driver, who competes in the Shifter Masters class, faced an emotional challenge leading up to the event.

Barnes nearly withdrew from the races following the loss of his beloved dog, Swizzle Dizzle, last Thursday [January 9].

However, he found the strength to return to the track and channel his emotions into his racing.

Despite narrowly missing securing pole position during qualifying, Barnes clinched victory in the pre-final and final in Saturday’s round one, then followed it up with a flawless sweep of victories in round two on Sunday.

Reflecting on the weekend, Barnes, who represents Maranello Kart USA, shared his thoughts on social media.

“When Swizzle Dizzle passed on Thursday, I pulled out of the race weekend; I just wasn’t up for doing anything,” he wrote.

“Friday my mind was running crazy, and I knew I needed to be in a kart to clear my mind for a bit.

“Showed up to the track Saturday and signed back up, first time on track was for qualifying and missed pole by a tenth [of a second].

“It was good to be in a kart, and it’s awesome that the Maranello Kart USA and Carblos Racing Engines were fast starlight off the bat!”
