PLP Press Conference Video, OBA Response
[Updated with OBA response] The Progressive Labour Party [PLP] is holding a press conference this afternoon [Jan 30]. We will have additional coverage later on and in the meantime the live replay is below.
The press conference did not end on the smoothest note, with the two MPs leaving as one reporter was still trying to pose questions.
Update 4.19pm: The OBA issued a statement saying that “when faced with difficult questions about their record” their “only answer was to deflect and not answer any questions” and “when pressed by the media further, Mr. Darrell and Mr. Adams simply got up and walked out of the room.”
OBA Leader Jarion Richardson said, “The Progressive Labour Party was quick to go on the attack following the announcement of Michael Fahy as an OBA candidate for the upcoming general election.
“During a press conference, PLP candidates Owen Darrell and Jache Adams directly blamed Mr. Fahy and the proposed Pathways to Status legislation for protests on December 2, 2016, that left members of the public injured following Police intervention.
“However, Mr. Darrell seems to be unaware of the reason for the protest on December 2nd concerned Bermuda’s new airport and was not related to Pathways to Status. The OBA also had no control whatsoever over the actions of the Bermuda Police Service.
“While then Minister Fahy was vilified for his efforts to grow Bermuda’s economy by increasing the number of workers, the PLP have since said almost the exact same thing, that Bermuda needs an additional 8,000 workers.
“To achieve this increase in workers, Mr. Adams claimed there was a fundamental difference between the OBA and PLP but could only say it was ‘how we go about doing things’ without providing any detail whatsoever. When pressed by the media, Mr. Adams could only offer ‘listening and consulting the people.’
“When asked what the PLP had done over last 2 years to bring in workers? Mr. Adam’s response? Simply more deflection, refusal to answer the questions and continued attacks on Mr. Fahy and the OBA.”
The OBA Leader added that “when faced with difficult questions about their record and involvement” in the December 2nd protests, “their only answer was to deflect and not answer any questions.”
Mr Richardson added, “When pressed by the media further, Mr. Darrell and Mr. Adams simply got up and walked out of the room. What message does that send to the people of Bermuda?
“Clearly the PLP have no answers and no solutions. Mr. Fahy has openly admitted mistakes were made in the past, and lessons learned. He has also shown his commitment to propose solutions to grow our economy and create a more prosperous future for all Bermudians,” Mr Richardson concluded.
Update 6.59pm: Minister Owen Darrell stated, “Today’s PLP Press conference did not end up in the way that it should have, and on behalf of the Progressive Labour Party, I apologise for the abrupt ending. Regardless of how they are received by the party or its candidates, it is important to address questions from the media. I unreservedly apologise and will continue to represent the PLP and the residents of Constituency 15 to the best of my ability.”
A spokesperson from the PLP stated, “The Progressive Labour Party acknowledges and fully supports this apology from Minister Darrell. We stand behind the commitment to ensuring positive interactions with the media and the public. As we move forward, we remain dedicated to upholding the highest standard of engagement in all interactions, particularly during this election season.”

And as if on cue, Owen’s opening balls are about Pathways. Come with something better. Imagine using these debating skills in a boardroom downtown.
You can only get away with this in public service where the bar has been lowered incredibly low.
Owen, you aren’t up Warwick Workmens’.
You’ve got the NewBP Jester sitting next to the Court Jester himself.
As if on cue, all the remarks are scripted and predictable.
yea were past those arguments, what has PLP been done since oba have been out of power.
I guess going forward, PLP pressers will be “we’ll not be taking any questions” variety?
Not a good look at all for Darrell and Adams.
Next stupid/stupid move will consist in bringing Jeff baron and Sylvan Richards back. Just to help the OBA write the losser speech, for the day after the election.
You must be one of the numpties in the video. Can’t speak can spell lol. If you’re not, you must not care at all about your country to support such numpties.
de scary ding is dis person ca also vote 2 brah
They can’t ask those 2 clowns to return because the circus obaubp replaced them with other political clowns.
BINGO LMAO!
Well done Gareth and GFS! Great display from them!
WOW, the PLP got up and walked out of the press conference, because they could not answer the questions. Instead they offered fluff. When they were asked further to explain , they could not answer.
We needed this from the media desperately !!!! The PLP fluff answers, deflection and inability to prove things shows they are just a hype propaganda engine. We Bermudians deserve to have a government that can answer questions properly, not use propaganda and works FOR US making BERMUDA BETTER FOR US. Thank you to whoever took the snakeoil salesmen to task. AT LAST ! Please keep up that good work, it will only benefit Bermudians if kept up and we keep out the snakeoil salesmen types.
The PLP record on this is shambolic. The PLP voters need to hear the truth that they have been hoodwinked time and time again. I’d expect any member of parliament for a ruling party to be under the same media scrutiny, whatever the party or person in Power !!!!!
Basically they didn’t have Burt mansplaining his way through the press conference. It’s not a PLP press conference until Burt starts mansplaining things.
What a train wreck !!
If you truly understand the legislation and policies that the PLP put forward, you would know that they have granted non-Bermudians way more rights and privileges, and on a much faster scale, than the OBA ever proposed. Maybe not the hallowed “status”, but so close as to be inconsequential (save for the “vote”).
Bahahahahaha! They’re such numpties! The PLP are being exposed for the useless lying lot that they are. The airport was a good deal and everyone with half a brain knows that. Pathways to status is absolutely less than what the current PLP government is doing. They don’t like facts and they are scared and running. Keep running all the way out the country as far as I’m concerned!
If you look at Jache, he doesn’t even believe the things Owen says.
Negative!
Negative comments!
These two clowns belong in a parody – what a joke.
