[Updated] The Progressive Labour Party [PLP] is hosting an Election Platform Launch event this evening [Feb 6]. We will have additional coverage later on and in the meantime the live video is below.
Update 8.57pm: A spokesperson said, “This election is about the future. You deserve a detailed plan and clear vision for where we seek to take the country. Many have voiced concerns about Bermuda’s future and the rising cost of living, but few have outlined detailed ideas or actionable plans to address these challenges. The Progressive Labour Party is offering a serious, detailed policy document focused on more affordability and opportunities for Bermudians. All of Bermuda are invited to read and consider the platform at plp.bm/platform2025
“Our pledges include workable, realistic solutions such as:
- Increasing oversight and controls over the cost of essential food;
- Increased investment in affordable housing;
- Developing a Senior Daycare center;
- Introducing absentee voting for eligible overseas students;
- Planning for a more climate-resilient infrastructure;
- Expanding coverage under HIP and FutureCare; and
- Reforming our criminal justice system.
“The PLP’s comprehensive platform was developed with input from wide sectors of our community. Every policy, initiative and goal outlined is a reflection of discussions with Bermudians at the doorstep. Shaped by a team of some of our brightest minds, with a balance of experienced stalwarts and next-generation leaders, the document is full of detail, outlining exactly what we plan to do to relieve the cost of living. It is also an achievable document. Many of the ideas – such as the food co-op and the senior daycare center – are already in progress.
“This platform speaks to how we will create a more affordable Bermuda by expanding affordable housing and reducing electricity costs.
“It focuses on the transformation of healthcare by prioritising mental health and ensuring every Bermudian has access to quality, affordable care.
“It discusses support for Bermudians through all stages of life—from expanding childcare assistance to increasing pension protections for our seniors.
“It focuses on sustaining and growing our economy by embracing new industries and renewable energy.
“And it speaks to how we will promote a more responsive, people-centered government, introducing greater transparency, accountability, and trust in public institutions.
“Finally, this platform is cost-effective. Other than during the COVID-19 crisis, the PLP has steadily reduced the deficit while balancing the need for increased investment in our people through social services, education, and healthcare.

Little late mate! You have been in power all this time and now you’re going to do all these things, should we remind you this mess was created under your watch,You be better off saying less
Glossy brochures, TV ads, and platforms hasn’t built a fairer Bermuda since 1998. The PLP has failed up until today. The words “Building” and “There is much work to be done” says it all. The PLP have built Bermuda down to the ground in 2 decades. Time is up, new people need to take over and bring us back, bring Bermudians back.
What about the disastrous past. What about the bermudiana dump
What about the debt
What about the savvy guy
What about the horrible roads
What about the horrible infrastructure
Worst premier ever. Childish and immature
40 pages!! I’d fall asleep after 2. Any “plans” that take so much space are unworkable and merely fluff, no wonder it took so long to produce. Does it include at page 1 how much this has cost taxpayers? If not then their claim of transparency has failed straight away. 25 years and it’s the same old tired repetitive ideas, promises and plans with nothing achieved.
This list is amateur, if this is what they are going to deliver, you will be poorer by the end of their next term.
Spending money to introduce controls will make prices higher. Also what is essential food? We would be better off if PLP just gave money to each family, but cutting 1% off Payroll tax. Add the cost of the vegetable centre ($15M to build and then the running costs and the real unit cost of food will be through the roof. We are paying through the nose and back again in the backround THIS IS NOT FAIRER.
The affordable housing is a joke, look at the Grand Atlantic/Bermudiana Beach or whatever it is supposed to be called now. Up to $200M spent on that ! Us Bermudians cant afford the rents they floated, this is NOT FAIRER.
The daycare centre won’t be enough, we need residential facilities. The Hospital beds need to be freed up for paitents not seniors who are trapped. How is their proposal FAIRER to people who need the hospital ????
Absentee voting…the PLP are liars ! They could have done it for this election.
Heathcare Expanded Coverage, well thats great, but the cost of it is unaffordable. It is ridiculous. We should be receiving everything for the prices we pay. Government needs to reduce the cost of insurance, reduce the cost service providers like Dr’s etc can charge BECAUSE THE STAUS QUO IS NOT FAIRER, but no mention of that !
More Climate resiliant infrastructure is just a buzzword, that is pure noise to attempt to climate concious people. (Meanwhile Belco smokes and soots the local people there). THAT IS NOT FAIRER, PLP HAVE JUST PAID LIP SERVICE.
Reforming Criminal justice system… is again more noise… this is to appeal to those who campaigned recently. So criminals get a better balance, how is that fair to those who strive to not commit crime? How about changing the police rules, so the real gang leaders and gangs can be destroyed forever. Generations of Bermudians have been lost to gang crime. It needs to stop, but the PLP don’t care, they just pay lip service to this.
How about plans on the implementation of the new corporate tax? you screw that up and we cripple the economy. we get it right and we can actually tackle debt and lower cost of living. It should be the number one topic for every candidate.

I do not believe we will ever see any money from Corporate Income Tax. Do not count those chickens yet.
MONEY MONEY MONEY.
There is only one reason to go to work and that is for MONEY. Think about that !
There is only one reason you are hired and that is your employer can makeMONEY using you untill you are of no more use to them .

What burns in many peoples pockets is MONEY it is a burning desire but you do have a choice

Have you notice that wealthy people live cheep the don’t spend MONEY, they in vest it .
it is a balancing act your saving account or your back pocket goin out the door.
leaving a desire to spend more and more till it is all gone to inflation.
Recession is slowly working vendors are now getting desperate beware of the greedy service agent do not load the MONEY bill with unauthorized time for MONEY add on .
Spending money gives a limited high with a need bring some thing you can carry home, that is untill you run out of space to put things in the house .
You break them, if not they will break you .
Shopping is a form of doing big business untill all your hard earnrd saving is no more. and you go bust

The big problem about poverty TH AT IS ABSOLUTE ZERO $$$. it never ends when people live on borrowed
MOMEY they borrow other peoples MONEY and that is you buy MONEY with interest payments being due , the reverse of investing MONEY for interest income, beware there is risk that comes with investing or lending MONEY you can loose it all .
You can live off some of that income but not all , as there is a need to build or increase your savings fund , save the fund,never spend its principal.
Did you know that wealthy people can get ripped off by the fact that some do not understand value for MONEY or the value of realestate , it is a dog eat dof out there.
Know this money does ot make you rich you health does that .
Most likely the desire to want or think you what thinks is more powerfull desire than the need .
If a person has alot of money what come with that is a no care attitude as to the value of MONEY. We as people have a choice on either how we spend our hard on MONEY or on gh how we spend it
You have a choise to determine what to you is more valuable ” a diamond ring ” or the MONEY it takes to buy it .
What is more valuable for things or the money to buy them .
A decision to buy proper food come easy the decision to buy paper towel doed not taste good even with suger on it .
however the decision to tour Europe come a little harder . Watch TV that is with less hassle .
It is cheeper to pay the supermarket than to pay the doctor . Music is not good medicine.
Stay away from sick people it is the cough that kills . For you will get sick and that costs more as you throw money at it for a quick recovery .
There is a man in ” Bell View” asylem who is there because he is down to his last million .
Governments are the world big recipiennts of your charity being they take your tax dollars to spend it on what they thinl you need ..
Gobvernments have so much money at their disposal it become easy for them to spend because it is your money and not theirs would they buy an elwctruc car with their own MONEY?
We have respect for one another but not for MONEY.
I often say get pay day on Friday you hope not to be. broke on Monday .
You will say to win the argument I work for it so i have the right to spend it .

You are the one who is the boss of you MONEY you either save it for aother day or spend to day.
Poverty is avery unpleasant disease, Governments spen MONEY on thing very rarely on the food shelf of life and that is food .
They tax you on the very thing that keep you alive in cluding medicine.

Try not to donate to your govermment for them to spend it for you on their electric cars while you take the bus to work.
The government love to spend your money in competition against you dad who owns a truck.

Look no further than the first page. You have heard it all before. Just for example, how often and how long have you heard the promise of decriminalising weed? Seen any any action? Nope, just talk.
Talk, talk, talk. It is what the PLP does best. Make a noise to fool the easily fooled and do nothing. It is the same as bribing children with candy.
It is disgusting that the Burt andministration and by association., all ofthe PLP decided to spring an election at a time when so many student (literally our future) are overseas at will not be able to vote for their future! And now you want to make it part of your platform by saying that you will be Introducing absentee voting for eligible overseas students!!!!
And I also see that government is now going to but a halt to their plan to control fishing? Why now when so many asked for consultation and input?

I havent seen any election hopefully in my area but that might be befause the overgrowth from the trees that have beenignored by government make it to dangerous to walk along the road because they are forced to be so far out in the road where it is dangerous!!! Welcome to the real Bermuda PLP!

The oba was over years ago that’s why Dunkley and the other intelligent members left a long time ago.
They just wanted to get out and enjoy life.
I’m so bored of this election. I am not enthused at all. We have a ruling party that will be returned to power (albeit possibly with a reduced majority, we can only hope), an opposition party that really has no fight and 20 odd independents who, for the most part, have no idea what an elected member of parliament even does.
I’m not an anarchist but I really hope that voter turnout is so low, like really low, that any results are null and void. I hope that happens so that it sends a loud and clear message. This election is entirely a pointless exercise.

Our cost of living and double dip taxation has broke my family there have been some small mersies, we go with out alot sort of hand to mouth and many others i fee so sorry for our seniors i do not envy your struggle .
Bermuda is undergoing and has made a drastic down ward change in our visitors arrivals they all go back home and tell their friends their bad news .
We can not compete with the stay at home vacations to make America great again bermuda will suffer yet again another down turn in our economy. !
visitor or the repreat visitors are way down doubt if we will see convension visitors again now only 5 % or less even get off the cruses ships for a~~~~~~~~~ swim
We may get them back with big discounts as the Hotel take all and may be no hope there .
