Mosaic Insurance has appointed executives Karen Reilly and David Barr to lead its respective US and international business growth in the environmental liability sector.

A spokesperson said, “Mosaic Insurance has appointed executives Karen Reilly and David Barr to lead its respective US and international business growth in the environmental liability sector.

“Based in Atlanta, GA, Reilly has 18-plus years of experience in the environmental insurance sphere, holding roles across underwriting, product development, and management throughout her career. She was among leading US environmental risk specialists Mosaic added to its team last year to drive a strategic buildout of business across the Americas. The expansion followed the company’s move to a new office in New York City, and its hiring of prominent specialty market executive Toby Smith as Americas CEO.

“Barr has been based in London, UK since 2022, when Mosaic launched its global environmental liability division as the company’s seventh specialty underwriting unit. He is a qualified geologist with more than 30 years’ professional experience in environmental insurance underwriting and broking, the petroleum industry, and environmental consultancy.”

“We’re proud to announce Karen and David to lead our growth and expand market engagement across their respective focus regions,” said Jim Finnamore, Global Head of Environmental Liability at Mosaic. “Both are highly respected, accomplished talents in our industry and their deep expertise will help drive our corporate growth in the sector.”

The spokesperson said, “Mosaic currently has a total of 20 environmental specialists, spanning the US and focusing on international business from London. Its suite of environmental policies covers a range of industries and includes a newly launched combined site pollution and general liability [SGL] form that merges primary commercial general liability [CGL] with tailored pollution and professional coverage grants. Supporting companies that are transitioning to more sustainable, low-carbon futures, is also a core strategy for Mosaic.

“Reilly and Barr’s dual focus will be to develop innovative products to address emerging environmental risks and help Mosaic clients navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape. They plan to expand divisional capabilities and appetite, increasing market share and deepening the company’s reputation as a leader in the environmental insurance space.”

“I’m committed to leading our team into a new era of innovation and growth,” said Reilly. “I’m excited to build on the strong foundation that Jim has created, enhance our offerings, and increase our value to our customers and the market.”

Added Barr: “These are truly exciting times at Mosaic, and I am thrilled to lead our continued international expansion, enabling Mosaic to offer insurance solutions globally to our retail and wholesale broking partners and customers.”

The spokesperson said, “Mosaic’s evolution as a global agency continues, with its business increasingly being driven by trade-capital partners across its seven specialty lines. The company currently underwrites on behalf of close to 30 insurers worldwide, originating more than USD$1 billion in GWP over the past two years alone for agency partners. As well as environmental liability, its business lines include political violence, transactional liability, cyber, political risk, financial institutions, and professional liability.”
