OBA Reacts To Hazel Clark’s BTA Resignation

January 6, 2025 | 3 Comments

Senator Dwayne Robinson is calling the resignation of Hazel Clark from the Bermuda Tourism Authority [BTA] “disappointing.”

Senator Robinson said, “It’s very disappointing to see that yet another valuable member of the Bermuda Tourism Authority has tendered their resignation.

“Ms Clark has been unwavering in her commitment to raise the profile of our island home and has garnered results—the loss for the BTA is a a loss for the Bermuda tourism product.

“The question has been asked multiple times, and I will ask once again: What is happening at the BTA that the public deserves to know? We can no longer deny that something is amiss.

“For a Government that prides itself on combating work place bullying and fostering healthy work environments, how can this be allowed to stand without a thorough investigation into the work place culture of the BTA?

“How many more staff have to resign in order for the Tourism Minister to take his head out of the sand? And what about the chairman of the Board? The silence must end…Bermuda needs answers. Our flagship tourism organisation seems to be holding on by a thread.

“Change is needed; the question is who is bold enough to make it happen.”

Update | BTA Chief Executive Officer, Tracy Berkeley said, “We extend our gratitude to Hazel Clark for her significant contributions to Bermuda and the BTA, and we wish her every success in her next chapter.

“The Bermuda Tourism Authority is a dynamic organisation, and like any organisation of our calibre, attrition is a natural part of our evolution. It is important to note that departures include resignations for alternate employment, the conclusion of fixed-term contracts, and instances where employees did not progress past the probationary period among other reasons.

“We are committed to fostering an environment where our team members can thrive.

“While challenges arise, they will not distract us from our mission to drive Bermuda’s tourism forward and to position the island as a premier travel destination.”

The political interference needs to STOP! But the amount of resignations that take place at other companies….people resign all the time for a variety of reasons. Who cares about this. I’m sure the jobs that you are at aren’t perfect. Let them get on with their business and OBA focus on more important things to win this election! Jumping on PLP’s bandwagon isn’t a good look!

Given today’s article in the press, the opposition were right to continue to ask questions.

“The question has been asked multiple times, and I will ask once again: What is happening at the BTA that the public deserves to know? We can no longer deny that something is amiss.”
