Phillips Wins Singles Match For Arizona
Daniel Phillips and the Arizona State University men’s tennis team rallied from a 1-0 deficit after doubles play to defeat Nebraska 4-2.
Daniel Phillips clinched the victory for the Wildcats with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Leo Linquet at the No. 5 singles position.
Arizona fell behind early after dropping the doubles point. Phillips and Mathis Bondaz lost 6-3 to Linquet and Joan Torres Espinosa at No. 3 doubles. The Wildcats responded by winning four of the six singles matches.
With the overall score tied 2-2, Jonas Ziverts defeated Roni Hietaranta 6-4, 7-6 [7-4] at No. 1 singles to give Arizona a 3-2 lead. Phillips then clinched the match with his straight-set victory over Linquet.
