Premier David Burt Signs Condolence Book
On Friday [Jan 3], Premier David Burt signed the Book of Condolence in tribute to the late President Jimmy Carter.
A Government spokesperson said, “On Friday [January 3], the Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, visited the US Consulate to sign the Commemorative Book of Condolence in memory of former US President Jimmy Carter.
“President Carter passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100.
“It should be noted that the US Government has declared January 9, 2025, as a National Day of Mourning to honour the legacy of President Carter.”
“The public will recall that earlier this week, Premier Burt praised the 39th President as someone who “selflessly dedicated his life to service, peace, and the betterment of humanity.”
Following Friday’s visit to the US Consulate, Premier Burt said, “On behalf of the people of Bermuda, I was humbled to pay my respects on the passing of former President Jimmy Carter. The longstanding relationship between Bermuda and the United States is one of mutual respect, shared values and collaboration. President Carter was a true friend of Bermuda who upheld these ideals, and we join with the US and those around the world in grieving the passing of this great patriot.”
A Government spokesperson added, “The Premier’s signing of the Condolence Book is a poignant moment that underscores Bermuda’s respect for the legacy of President Carter and Bermuda’s support of the United States during their time of national mourning.”
