The Women’s Resource Centre announced a 10-week therapeutic writing workshop, “What’s Your Story?”, starting January 14, 2025.

A spokesperson said, “The Women’s Resource Centre [WRC] is delighted to announce the launch of a 10-week therapeutic writer’s workshop, “What’s Your Story?”, beginning on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 6:00 PM. This transformative programme is designed to provide a safe and nurturing space for women to explore the healing power of storytelling while developing their writing skills.

“Facilitated by self-published Bermudian author Sloane Johnson, the workshop will guide participants through the transformative process of self-expression through writing. Whether attendees are seasoned writers or just beginning their writing journey, this experience will help them find their voices and share their stories in meaningful ways.

“Since our rebrand in 2023, the WRC has embraced innovative ways to create safe spaces for mental health support for women in Bermuda. Alongside traditional psychotherapy and counselling services, the WRC offers a variety of community events and workshops to equip women with tools to effectively manage their mental and emotional health, recover from traumatic experiences, and redesign their lives.

“Research has shown that expressive writing can lead to significant physical and psychological health improvements, including reduced stress, enhanced immune function, and greater emotional well-being. This approach, rooted in cognitive and emotional processing, is a valuable complement to traditional therapies in both clinical and self-help settings.

Juanae Crockwell, Executive Director of the WRC, shared: “As we continue to expand our therapeutic programmes to provide holistic healing and support for women in Bermuda, we are excited to offer this writer’s workshop. Writing has immense therapeutic value—it helps us process our feelings, build confidence, and own our stories, no matter the challenges we’ve faced.”

She added, “We are also thrilled to welcome Sloane Johnson as our facilitator. Her experience in self-publishing will inspire participants and empower many to realise their dream of becoming a published author.”

A spokesperson added, “Ms. Johnson has published five books, including Bitter Sweet, ‘Twas the Week Before Christmas: A Bermuda Tale, Love Is, Unevenly Yoked, and her upcoming release Soul Searching, which is scheduled for publication in February 2025. During the workshop, she will mentor participants on their writing journeys and provide guidance on the self-publishing process.

“In addition to her work as an author, Ms. Johnson is a licensed restorative practitioner and trainer, passionate about creating safe and supportive spaces. She will bring this same dedication to her women’s writing workshop, where participants are encouraged to creatively unpack their stories, heal through writing, and develop the confidence to share their voices with the world.”

Sloane Johnson, Bermudian author and facilitator of the workshop, shared: “I am deeply honored to facilitate the ‘What’s Your Story?’ workshop, a space where women can harness the power of storytelling to heal, grow, and transform. Writing has been a lifeline for me, allowing me to navigate life’s challenges and celebrate its joys. Through this workshop, I hope to inspire participants to embrace their unique voices, confront their truths, and take bold steps toward sharing their stories with the world.”

A spokesperson added, “Spaces for this workshop are limited to just 10 participants, ensuring an intimate and supportive environment. Interested individuals are encouraged to register now to secure their spot. Recognising the importance of accessibility, the WRC is pleased to offer 5 sponsored spaces to ensure the $150 registration fee is not a barrier to participation.”
