Friends of Hospice has announced that their popular annual Moon Walk will be taking place on Wednesday, February 12th – starting and finishing at Chaplin Bay.

A spokesperson said, “Participants are invited to join Friends of Hospice in remembering and celebrating lost loved ones as they walk to Horseshoe Bay and back under the light of the full moon. Their way will be illuminated, and the mood will be set by musical entertainment from Hayley Cann, music therapist, and the Upper Primary Warwick Academy Choir. Inferno Arts Bermuda will be putting on an LED show and a reading will be given by Avril Hassell, a longstanding volunteer.

“The event, starting at 6:30pm, marks the fifth Friends of Hospice Moon Walk, which was an annual event before the pandemic. Funds raised from the evening will go toward the organisation’s programmes and services, which support those in hospice and palliative care along with their loved ones.

“Walkers can register in advance by emailing their names to info@hospice.bm ahead of the day, or in-person on the evening from 6pm. The charity is requesting a $15 donation per walker, where possible, but does not discourage those who cannot afford it at this time. Donations can be made at the event itself or ahead-of-time online at friendsofhospice.bm/donate.”

“I am so pleased that the Friends of Hospice Moon Walk event is open to the community again after COVID,” said volunteer, Nicky Gurret. “There is nothing else like it. It is such a special event to walk under the full moon, gazing at the stars on Bermuda’s beautiful South Shore beaches and sand dunes, remembering loved ones who have passed.

“In particular, I’ll remember Eddie Gurret, who was my beloved, fabulous father and fantastic chef. It has been 15 years since he passed, and I will be thinking of him with much gratitude and love – as I often do.”

Jennifer Mahoney, Executive Director of the Friends of Hospice, said: “We are so pleased to be putting on the Moon Walk again – we know this is an incredibly special night to so many in the community. We encourage those who haven’t joined us before to come out and experience the beauty of the south shore under the moonlight and support a cause that has helped so many.”

It is such a great event to be out on one of the most beautiful beaches walking in the moonlight. Remember to bring your flashlight and warm clothes.
