BUEI’s Young Reporters For The Environment
The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] announced the return of its Young Reporters For The Environment [YRE] National Competition, now in its third year in Bermuda.
A spokesperson said, “BUEI is the National Operator of the Foundation for Environmental Education programmes [FEE] in Bermuda, which includes the YRE programme and YRE Environmental Journalism Competition.
“Open to young people between the ages of 11-22 years, the focus of this year’s YRE journalism competition is Eco-System Restoration. Participants are encouraged to use any one of four media tools [writing, photography, film and podcast] to engage their audience in a local environmental topic of their choice.
“In preparation for the competition, BUEI will be a hosting virtual workshop for everyone who is interested on Wednesday, March 12th. Led by Summer Wood, BUEI’s Head of Education, this 30-minute session will help participants learn how to create their most inspiring articles, photos, videos and podcasts. This training session will help young people become the best reporter for the environment and ensure their submissions are competition ready!
“All local youth between ages of 11 – 25 with an interest in the environment, who love to write, take photos, or create short films, are encouraged to attend the workshops. We will discuss the competition categories and submission requirements, and answer any questions that may arise.
“Entries for the YRE National Journalism Competition will be accepted by BUEI between March 10 – April 7. Winning submissions from Bermuda will be entered into the YRE annual International Competition which is assessed by an international jury and recognised on a global scale. 450,000+ students in 44 countries are currently involved in the YRE programme and over 19,000 photos, articles and videos are submitted annually.
