Scott Barnes Claims Podium Finish In Texas
Scott Barnes finished strongly in the Skusa Pro Tour WinterNationals after claiming a podium finish in the second round at the Speedsportz Racing Park in New Caney, Texas, at the weekend.
Barnes, the defending champion in the Shifter Masters class, placed sixth in the first-round final on Saturday before securing a third-place finish in the second-round final yesterday [March 31].
“Definitely wasn’t the weekend we wanted, and always hard on a new track to only have four practice sessions,” Barnes wrote on social media.
“Struggled all weekend to get the kart to do what I wanted. But the team never gave up and we kept fighting.
“After getting hit and bending a steering shaft in the pre-final Sunday, we started last for the final in the twelfth spot.
“Put my head down and charged through the field up to a third-place podium spot to salvage as many points as possible.
“Ran the same lap times as the leads. We got there; just too late into the weekend.
“Dug myself a big hole in the championship points hunt, but it’s racing and you never know what can happen. Will go to rounds three and four in May hungry for some wins!”
Rounds three and four of the tour, the SpringNationals, will be held at the Motorsports Country Club in Cincinnati from May 23 to 25.
The final two rounds, the SummerNationals, will take place at New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana from July 25 to 27.
Barnes, who races for Maranello Karts USA, is sponsored by Butterfield & Vallis, representing their Powerade brand, and All Rise Limited.
