Minister of National Security Michael Weeks addressed a public information session at Dalton E. Tucker Primary on careers in Bermuda’s uniformed services.

Minister Weeks said, “Good evening everyone. It is a privilege to be here with you tonight as we continue this important initiative—helping Bermudians explore the rewarding careers available within our uniformed services. This is the second in a series of information sessions designed to give you direct access to those who serve, so you can hear from them, ask your questions, and determine whether this path is right for you.

“First, let me thank each of you for taking the time to be here. Whether you are considering a career in uniformed service, thinking about a change in direction, or simply want to understand more about the work these services do, your presence this evening reflects a genuine interest in service to Bermuda.

“Our Bermuda Police Service, Royal Bermuda Regiment, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service, Customs Department, and Department of Corrections are the foundation of our island’s security. These careers are not just about having a job; they offer long-term stability, opportunities for professional growth, and the ability to serve the public meaningfully.

“Some of you may be wondering if there are positions available now. The reality is that recruitment for these services is an ongoing process. Even if vacancies are not open now, this session is about preparing you with the knowledge you need so that when opportunities arise, you are ready.

“Understanding these careers’ qualifications, training requirements, and daily realities can help you take the necessary steps to prepare for the future.

“I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. Ask questions, speak with the representatives here, and consider how these careers align with your skills, aspirations, and values. Once this session is over, I urge you to spread the word. If you have family or friends who might be interested—especially those currently overseas—encourage them to visit gov.bm/uniformed services for details on how they can take part.

“Bermuda needs dedicated and capable individuals to serve in its uniformed services. Perhaps that individual is sitting in this room tonight. So I encourage you to step up, Take the Challenge, and see where this journey could take you.

“Thank you, and I now turn it over to our panellists to lead you through the rest of the session.”
