PrivCom Releases Financial Services Notes

March 10, 2025 | 0 Comments

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner [PrivCom] has published Financial Services Guidance Notes.

A spokesperson said, “In March 2024, The Office of the Privacy Commissioner [PrivCom] sought input from the financial services sector regarding concerns or gaps that may need to be addressed considering how new privacy laws intersect with financial regulation. With the enactment of the Personal Information Protection Act 2016 [PIPA] on January 1, 2025, the business environment in Bermuda has shifted significantly as organisations strive for compliance. PrivCom is excited to announce the publication of the Financial Services Guidance Notes. The guidance note may be found here.”

Commissioner White said, “I am so proud of this report from my office. I would like to once again thank the members of the public who took the time to participate in this process. This was a full team effort, so I would also like to thank our internal staff who contributed comments, and especially two individuals who played a big part in its drafting, Kendra Mello and Jordan Cutts, in addition to Vivienne Artz who provided us with external support. As we like to say, ‘Privacy Means Business,’ and this report shows how privacy practices can be incorporated into Bermuda’s important financial services industry.”

The spokesperson said, “PrivCom is here to help. Want to learn more? Visit our website at www.privacy.bm or call us at 441-543-7748.”
