Bermuda Is Love ‘LoveLocalFood’ Campaign
This April, Bermuda Is Love is launching the #LoveLocalFood campaign to highlight the importance of Bermuda’s local food system.
A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Is Love invites you to reflect on the meaning of food, the land that sustains us, and the future we want to build. Food is not just a commodity; it is the foundation of life, the thread that weaves communities together, and the most intimate connection we have to nature.
“Yet, Bermuda currently produces only 10% of the food consumed on the island, and only half of the island’s natural arable land is being farmed. This contributes to food insecurity and the high cost of imported food, making it harder for people to afford quality, nutritious meals.
“We believe in a future where Bermuda is fully food secure. Where no one must choose between feeding their family or paying rent. We must recognize that access to fresh, nutritious food is not a privilege but a human right. It is to understand that the strength of a society is measured not by its wealth, but by its ability to nourish its people. We demand that every Bermudian deserves access to fresh, nutritious food at all times.
“This month, we will examine Bermuda’s food system—its strengths, its struggles, and its possibilities; showcasing the work already being done in Bermuda’s food sector, and discussing the challenges and opportunities in agriculture and fishing, and hosting community gardening days, farm tours, and expert panels. We will be engaging with farmers, fishers, chefs, restaurateurs, educators, and activists to explore solutions for a stronger local food system.
“From hands-on experiences to insightful discussions, we invite everyone—whether a seasoned farmer or simply curious about where food comes from—to join the conversation. This is a call to action, not just to support local food, but to become part of a movement that ensures Bermuda can feed itself for generations to come.
“For the love of local food, for the love of community, for the love of Bermuda. Together, we can work towards a more sustainable, self-sufficient future for our island!
