Governor Andrew Murdoch Visits Chatmore
Chatmore British International School welcomed Governor Andrew Murdoch on April 14th for a visit.
A spokesperson said, “His Excellency is visiting all nine parishes and chose Chatmore as a school to visit in Smiths and to mark his first Bermuda Good Friday experience.
“During his visit, Governor Murdoch toured the school’s welcoming campus, observed learning in action, and engaged in open dialogue with both students and staff. The Governor was also treated to a personalised kite making class with kite master, Mr. Eugene O’Connor Sr. This was a joyful experience where His Excellency’s cat, Palmerston, made a special appearance. The kite was completed by Chatmore students and collected by the Governor’s team so the kite could fly over the holidays.
“His Excellency got to know our Head Boy, Jayden DeSilva, and talk with him and the school leaders about Chatmore’s distinctive approach to education, which emphasizes personalised learning, outdoor education, character development, and global citizenship.”
“We were delighted to host His Excellency and share with him the heart of Chatmore – our students, our learning environment, and our commitment to nurturing confident, capable, and compassionate young people,” said Mrs. Butterworth, Director at Chatmore. “This visit was extra special to mark our 20th year of Chatmore.”
The spokesperson said, “The visit was a meaningful opportunity for students to showcase their talents and articulate their aspirations. Governor Murdoch’s thoughtful engagement and encouraging words made a lasting impression on the school community.”
Governor Murdoch shared his reflections on the visit, “I’m keen to get to know all parts of the communities in Bermuda. One way of doing that it through a series of monthly parish visits. I will be going to each parish in turn over the course of the year, visiting schools, churches, community endeavours, environmental events, and cultural activities. I will be visiting two schools in Smiths parish in April and was delighted to start with Chatmore.
“Thank you to Mrs. Butterworth and all the school staff and pupils for their very warm welcome. During the visit I was fortunate to take part in a kite-making masterclass led by Mr Eugene O’Connor Sr. Mr O’Connor was extremely patient in teaching me how to make a traditional Bermuda kite. It was wonderful to spend time in the school to learn about Chatmore’s approach to teaching and supporting the well-being of students, including through multi-disciplinary activities. Good luck to all those about to take exams!”
The spokesperson said, “Chatmore is proud to be part of the many esteemed learning environments here in Bermuda offering an outstanding education for Bermuda’s young people. Chatmore is grateful for the Governor’s visit, which served as both an inspiration and a recognition of the school’s efforts.”
