Ralph Scott has become the first Bermudian chosen for the Basketball Without Borders Americas camp, with the 6ft 7in basketball player set to attend the prestigious camp in El Salvador later this year.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Basketball Association [BBA] Executive Committee is pleased to announce that Ralph E. Scott has been selected to participate in the Basketball Without Borders [BWB] Americas camp in San Salvador, El Salvador from May 30 to June 2, 2025. This is a first for a Bermudian athlete and a significant accomplishment for the Bermuda Basketball community.”

Tim Trott, BBA Secretary-General and Youth Committee Chairman, said, “This is great news and congratulations to Ralph! He is one of only 30 young men chosen – in the whole of FIBA Americas [which encompasses North, Central and South America].”

The spokesperson said, “Basketball Without Borders [BWB] consists of 6 annual multi-day development camps in Africa, Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific and the United States.

“Each camp is age-based, and nominated players are selected by the NBA, WNBA, FIBA and participating National Federations [BBA] based on their performance and demonstrated leadership abilities.

“There are three main objectives for the Basketball Without Borders:

  1. Elite basketball instruction and development opportunities to maximize the potential of international talent.
  2. Elevate the level of basketball in each region where the camp is hosted.
  3. Provide NBA, WNBA and FIBA players, coaches and team executives an opportunity to serve as global ambassadors through the game of basketball.

“Some notable NBA players who have attended BWB camps include Joel Embiid, Josh Giddey, Bennedict Mathurin, Jamal Murray, Pascal Siakam, Isaiah Hartenstein, Deandre Ayton, Rui Hachimura, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

“Ralph E. Scott is one of thirty young elite male players, born in 2008, who will be participating in the Americas region camp.

“The camp will offer a unique opportunity for these young elite athletes to showcase their talent, improve their skills and get to know other top basketball players of their age. Participants also take part in leadership and life skills programming. Additionally, each participant will benefit from cross-cultural experiences through their interaction with peers from around the world.”

Mr Scott’s nomination and selection is largely based on his standout performances representing the Bermuda U16 National Youth Team [2023 and 2024], and his performance this season [2024/25] playing with the IMG Varsity Gold Team at the IMG Academy in Bradenton Florida.

The 6’7” athlete, who maintains a 3.7 GPA, has completed a successful season at IMG, with his Coach Julian Allen stating that, “Ralph impacts the game in many ways. Offensively, he can score on all levels and initiate the offense when needed. Defensively, he can guard multiple positions and challenge shots at the rim using his length and athleticism.

“Ralph’s most significant growth area has been his consistency in effort and motor. In our most recent game, Ralph showed what he is capable of; he finished the game with 26 points, 12 rebounds, while shooting 54% from the field against post-Grad level competition. During the season, Ralph is averaging 12ppg, 7 reb, shooting over 50%fg and 32% 3fg.

“I am proud of how far Ralph has come as a player, and a leader on the court and, most importantly, as a young man off the court. Ralph hasn’t had any issues in the classroom or around campus. He is respectful to all staff and student-athletes on campus.

“Ralph has a bright future in basketball. I look forward to seeing his continued development while here at IMG Academy. Ralph will make an excellent addition to Basketball Without Borders. I am confident that Ralph will take full advantage of this opportunity. Ralph will bring a winning brand of basketball to Basketball Without Borders.”

Mr Scott, who is currently playing AAU Basketball and studying for exams, said, “I am excited and thankful to God for this new opportunity. I am grateful to the Bermuda Basketball Association for submitting and backing my nomination.”

He also expressed gratitude for the prayers, support and encouragement he has received whilst pursuing his basketball ambitions.
