Road Safety Advisory Following Weekend Rain
The Ministry is urging people to “exercise extreme caution while travelling” as they are ”aware of several large and potentially dangerous potholes that have appeared on a number of roads” following the rain this weekend.
A Government spokesperson said, “This evening, the Ministry of Public Works and Environment issued a safety advisory for commuters who are travelling about the island in the coming days.
“A Ministry spokesperson notes that following the heavy rain this weekend, the Ministry is aware of several large and potentially dangerous potholes that have appeared on a number of roads.
“All drivers and pedestrians are urged to exercise extreme caution while travelling along the affected areas.
“As an example, in the Elbow Beach Hotel area there is a particularly concerning pothole, and motorists are encouraged to exercise safety when driving in that area. Commuters should reduce their speed to avoid any hazards.
“As a public assurance, the Ministry’s roadworks and maintenance teams will be addressing any problem areas, urgently starting tomorrow. The public’s patience and cooperation is appreciated as the Ministry works to ensure the safety of all road users.
“The public can report any pothole concerns to potholes@gov.bm.”

Oh thats right, blame it on the weather. This place gets more third world by the day, meanwhile the Premier is out traveling the world on money that should be used maintaining the roads.
Oh well, this is what y’all voted for. Getting exactly what you deserve. Better be putting money aside for struts, pitman arms and bushings for your cars that need to be fit for the roads that are far from fit for your cars.
That’s it! The weather!
The weather is why our current account is nearly $4 BILLION in the red and the weather is why our unfunded pension liabilities exceed our current account debt.
There have been a large number of lethal potholes randomly around Bermuda’s roads for months that have not been fixed, which could without fail kill someone riding a motorbike. The fact these have never been filled is gross negligence to human lives. I have almost been killed a number of times. Any pothole that is like 5 inches deep could propel a motorbike into a somersault and kill the rider. There is one on Crow Lane / East Broadway right around the gas station. In major traffic this and any other is a hazard as you cannot see the pothole in time to avoid it. What about tourists? Do we want people dying on our roads? So much concern about people driving 35 or 40mph as if thats a sin, but no care to fill in potholes which may cost $100 to fill? Pathetic!
Can we please also get the centre lines repainted? I have to wonder if the absence of the centre line on very long stretches of road might be a challenge to other drivers. I find it very difficult, especially where the road lighting isn’t strong.
Why aren’t govt identifying the potholes, why is this being pushed onto the public.
Rain should not be damaging the roads. they have highways around the world that last for many years, The substandard work because of the PLP not giving the W&E the right products, the right amount of product to maintain the roads on a rolling basis and tools to do the job is shameful.
Pot holes? You mean tub holes ????????????????????
Cauldron holes.
So W&E need the public to tell them where the potholes are. Do people getting paid by W&E not drive on the same roads as the rest of us?
I can usually see the holes in the road, even with my “senior eyes”.
Public employees doing their jobs? I think you assume too much.
How many of these potholes are on the routes for the 70 electric buses? What about the 13 minister electric cars? Imagine the damage these heavy vehicles are doing to our less-than-world-class roads.
Imagine having so many potholes that potholes have a government email address!
