Badminton: Warwick Wins Top Spots In Over-13
Warwick Academy swept the podium in the over 13 division at the Middle School Badminton Tournament held at Somersfield Academy.
A spokesperson said, “Miuchael Mohipp led the Warwick charge defeating teammate Thomas McBain 15-10, 15-10 in the over 13 final. Joshua Manning claimed the bronze medal after he defeated Saltus Grammar School’s Shane Reardon 15-6 in the third place match. Mohipp defeated Shane Reardon from Saltus Grammar School 15-6 in the semi finals while McBain defeated Manning 15-12 in the other semi final.
“Mohipp teamed up with Julian Hands to go undefeated in winning the over 13 doubles tournament. They finished the round robin tournament with a perfect 5-0 record. Second place went to the Saltus pair of Shane Reardon and Dominic Wright who finished 4-1. Warwick Claimed third place as Thomas McBain and Benjamin Stones finished with a 3-2 record.
“Jithorn Liew won both the singels and doubles tournaments in the under 13 division. Liew defetaed teammate James Bigley 15-8 in the final. Dominic Slater defetaed Cayden Lee in an all Warwick Academy third place match. Liew defeeated Slater 15-9 in the semi final while Bigley defetaed Lee in the other semi final. Liew and Bigley teammed up to win the doubles tournament undefeated.
“The Somersfield duo defeated the Saltus pair of Charles Balderos and Joseph Yamine 15-4 in the final. They had previously defetaed teammates Praroop Srivastava and Coltom Keans 15-7 in the semi final while the Saltus pair got past the Warwick pair of Caleb Mello and Austin Frank 15-11 to earn their spot in the final. Mello and Frank won the bronze with a 15-6 win over Srivastava and Keans.”
