BSSF Middle School Badminton Results

Somersfield Academy swept all divisions in the BSSF Middle School Girls Badminton Tournament. Leilani Carpol improved on her second place finish last year by winning the under 13 singles title. Carpol defeated schoolmate Sienna Harper 15-12 in the final to be crowned Under 13 champion. Carpol defeated Saltus top seed McKenna Kyme 15-6 in the quarter finals before defeating Somersfield’s Aniah Tucker 15-6 to earn her place in the final. Harper defeated the top two Warwick Academy seeded players to reach the final. Harper first defeated Devi Samuels 15-6 before overcoming Sophie McClure 15-10 in the semi finals. Warwick’s McClure won third place when she defeated Tucker 15-6 in the third place match. Carpol and Harper then joined forces to defend their under 13 doubles title. They defeated Warwick Academy pair Devi Samuels and Sophie McClure 15-11 in the final. The Saltus pair of McKenna Kyme and Bailey Evans finished in third place after defeating Aniah Tucker and Kate Pursell from Somersfield Academy 15-8.

Last years under 13 champion went undefeated in winning the Over 13 singles division in her first year in the division. Somersfield Academy’s Cora Desilva overcame Warwick Academy’s Nila Samuels 15-9 in the final. Desilva defeated classmate Sydney Troake 15-12 in the semi final while Samuels beat Somersfield’s Heyleigh Cherry 15-9 in the other semi final. Desilva and Troake teamed together to win gold in the doubles division. They defeated the Saltus pair of Kenzie Lawrence and Carolyn Mahadevan 15-6 after the two teams topped the seven team round robin group stage. The Warwick Academy top seeds of Nila Samuels and Talia Batista defeated Warwick’s second seeds Jamie Cedenio and Kiara Crockwell 15-10 in the third place match.

Warwick Academy’s Micheal Mohipp won the under 13 boys singles title. Hohipp overcame Somersfield Academy’s Jithom Liew 15-8 in the final. Hohipp defeated Somersfield Academy’s Raul Maldonado-Jaime 15-9 in the semi final while Liew was victorious over Saltus’ Shane Reardon 15-9 in the other semi final. Maldonado-Jaime defeated Reardon 15-9 in the third place match. Leiw would get revenge over Hohipp in the doubles tournament teaming up with Maldonado-Jaime to win 15-7 over Hohipp and Joshua Manning. The Somersfield pair of James Bigley and Riley Maybury defeated the Saltus pair of Reardon and Dominic Wright 15-13 in a close third place match.

Chase McCrimmon claimed gold in the over 13 boys singles tournament. The Saltus student defeated Warwick Academy’s Jayden Jones to win Saltus their first gold of the week. Defending champion Aaron Lee from Somersfield Academy finished in third place with a 15-12 win over Saltus’ Ryan Mclean. McCrimmon defeated Mclean 15-8 in the semi final while Jones won 15-12 over Lee. Warwick’s Ethan Mello and Finn Peters won the doubles competition after winning 15-13 in a thrilling seesaw battle over Saltus’ McCrimmon and Charlie Szakmary. Somersfield’s Brooklyn Barnett and Max Decouto finished third after beating Warwick’s Jaydon Jones and Nathan Carreiro.
