BEDC Seeks Kitchen Owners For Rental Program
The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC] is currently seeking licensed commercial kitchen owners across the island who are interested in renting their kitchen space during off-hours as part of its Underutilized Commercial Kitchens Program.
A spokesperson said, “The program connects underused, Department of Health-approved kitchen facilities with vetted community users such as bakers, caterers, and other food entrepreneurs who require flexible access to commercial-grade kitchen space. By participating in the program, kitchen owners can generate additional income while directly supporting the growth of Bermuda’s food-based small businesses.”
“We recognize that many kitchens across the island sit idle for several hours a day,” said William Spriggs, Director of Economic & Cooperative Development at BEDC. “This program presents a win-win opportunity. Kitchen owners can monetize their unused time, and at the same time, we are reducing the barriers to entry for entrepreneurs who need access to affordable, licensed kitchen space. It is a practical solution that supports economic development at the community level.”
The spokesperson said, “BEDC will play a project management role—facilitating connections, managing expectations, and ensuring that both kitchen owners and users benefit from a structured, reliable partnership. The goal is to foster a stronger ecosystem for culinary entrepreneurs while creating new revenue opportunities for existing businesses.
“As part of this effort, BEDC is actively inviting all licensed kitchen owners and managers—whether operating independently or within larger organizations—to register their interest in becoming a part of the program. The BEDC will match facilities that are Department of Health-approved and meet program criteria with credible, community-based users on a flexible rental schedule.
