Cricket: Warwick And Sandys Win Super 8s
Warwick Academy and Sandys Secondary Middle School were crowned middle school Super 8s champions at White Hill Field, with Warwick winning the boys’ title and Sandys taking gold in the girls’ division.
A spokesperson said, “Warwick Academy and Sandys Secondary Middle School each claimed a middle school Super 8s title recently at white hill field. The event sponsored by Renaissance Re and Skyport saw Warwick lift the middle school boys title while Sandys claimed gold in the girls division.
“Warwick defeated Sandys by 29 runs. Warwick batted first and posted 75 runs in their allotted six overs. They were led by Henrik McIntosh with 18 runs where he hit 2 sixes and one four. Thomas McBain added 16 runs for the champions. Sandys could only muster 46 in reply. Shannon Smith led the west enders with 14 runs.
“Warwick were emphatic with their semi final win over Saltus Grammar School after posting a daunting 96 runs in their six overs McBain led all scorers with 24 runs which included 2 sixes and 2 fours. McIntosh added 22 to Warwick score. Saltus could only score 39 in reply. Sandys reached the final after defeating Whitney by 21 runs in the semi final. Sandys posted 76 runs in their innings led by Riley Martin with 30 runs. Martin scored 3 sixes and 3 fours before having to retire on 30 runs. Smith added 23 runs. Whitney scored 54 in their overs led by Meaiz Trott on 19 and Davonte Binns Leverock on 13 runs.
“Sandys would exact revenge on Warwick in winning the girls title. Sandys batted first and scored 54 runs led by Yahri Smith with an unbeaten boundary filled 18 runs. Warwick didn’t help their cause after being run out four times on their way to scoring 30 runs in reply. Sandys overcame the Whitney Institute by 24 runs in the semi finals. Rhe’O Simons was the leading scorer with 10 runs after Sandys posted 65 run. Warwick reached the final after defeating Saltus by 4 wickets Saltus were restricted to 46 runs in their six overs of batting. Sophia Lewter and McKenna Kyme each scored 10 runs. Warwick reached their target of 47 with only two balls to spare. Mirabella Lohan hit four 4s on her way to 19 runs while Evie Brogden added 10 runs for the eventual runners up.”
