In Bermuda, we will observe this milestone on Monday – 19/5/25 – 6.30 pm at Dellwood Middle School’s Auditorium, with the theme – Always Learning.
“This speaks to the characteristic, that ‘at our best’ we humans can draw lessons from challenging circumstances to leverage on-going growth and development. In addition to reflecting on Malcolm’s life, this interactive Gathering offers the opportunity for attendees to reflect on their personal stories.
“To prime that pump, Alex Scott, Victoria Pearman, Kendrick Zuill and others will share ‘snap shots’ from their own ‘journeys’.
“Malcolm’s ‘journey’, included losing his father – at 6 – in a ‘suspicious’ tram accident; but he became Class President of his mostly-white Middle School. During his mother’s years-long hospitalization, he turned to crime ending up in prison as 21-yr old Detroit Red. Subsequently, his ongoing transformation, led to him becoming Malcom X – spokesperson for the Nation. of Islam.
“Always Learning, he continued evolving, eventually emerging as el Hajj el Malik Shabazz, a global icon. While his assassination ended his life, his spirit lives on.
“Many of Bermuda’s older generation were inspired by his Autobiography. Monday’s gathering in appreciation of Malcolm’s global contribution, shares this ‘light’ with upcoming generations.”
