Open Airways Hosts Asthma Education Seminar

Open Airways marked World Asthma Day with an asthma education seminar at City Hall in Hamilton.

A Government spokesperson said, “Open Airways today hosted an asthma education seminar at City Hall in Hamilton to mark World Asthma Day.”

Minister of Health Kim Wilson said, “In Bermuda, it is estimated that more than 8,000 people are affected by asthma, with about one in seven schoolchildren and one in ten adults impacted.

“Since the founding of Open Airways over 28 years ago, asthma-related hospital admissions have decreased by an astounding 81%. People across the island are becoming more informed about asthma and the treatment options available.

”Before the Covid-19 pandemic, asthma was the number one reason for ER visits, with an average of over four patients seeking help every day.

“Open Airways has committed itself to empowering individuals with asthma to take control of their health. Through education and outreach, they encourage people to learn more and breathe better.

“I want to share that the Ministry of Health is currently embarking on an important initiative to map out and better understand the steps that patients with asthma take while seeking care in Bermuda. Your input will be invaluable as we work together to enhance asthma care on the island. A survey will be coming soon, and we kindly encourage you to participate.”
