WeSpeak’s two-day event with Melissa Majors empowered women, girls, and coaches to lead with confidence and purpose.

A spokesperson said, “Last week, WeSpeak brought its signature brand of empowerment and confidence-building back to Bermuda with a dynamic three-part event series featuring internationally renowned leadership strategist and author Melissa Majors. “Held across two venues, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute and the Hamilton Princess, the signature event series marked WeSpeak’s first large-scale programming since 2020, and it did not disappoint. From the moment Melissa Majors stepped on stage, her presence was magnetic. Known for her work with global organisations such as Google, Microsoft and Salesforce, Majors brought her keynote session ‘Help Her Thrive’ to a packed Harbourview Ballroom, offering practical, research-based strategies for building inclusive environments where women don’t just participate – they rise.

“Speaking directly to over a multi-generational audience of professionals, leaders, and community advocates that was over 250 strong, Majors challenged attendees to think critically about the systemic and everyday barriers that limit women’s voices. Her message was not only grounded in data and leadership theory but infused with energy, humour, and heart.”

“You are not future leaders. You are leaders right now,” Ms Majors told the room. “You have dreams that are bold, ideas that are brilliant, and a voice that can move mountains. But here’s the truth: the world won’t always hand you the microphone – you have to step up to it.”

The spokesperson said, “The signature event was bookended by two satellite sessions that broadened the series’ impact. Earlier that day, Majors hosted a closed-door workshop for 32 local coaches and mentors, equipping them with tools to guide others more effectively and inclusively. In the afternoon, 86 teen girls from Bermuda’s senior schools gathered for a high-energy empowerment workshop that encouraged them to take ownership of their stories, step into leadership, and use their voices with purpose. It was a full-circle moment for WeSpeak, whose impact spans from early development to professional advancement.”

Sue Khan, Executive Director of WeSpeak, described the series as a pivotal moment in the organisation’s journey, “We wanted to come back strong with the signature event series after a long hiatus, and Melissa Majors brought exactly the energy, wisdom, and heart we hoped, because it was more than a gathering, it was an energy.

“Across our coach, teen, and community events, we witnessed what it truly means to thrive. Women and girls found the courage to speak, connect, and lead with confidence. I’m incredibly proud of the space we created together and deeply grateful to our supporters who believe in the power of projecting women’s voices. This series was a reawakening of the movement we started in 2019.”

The spokesperson said, “The event was made possible through the generous support of sponsors including Arch Re, Aspen, Deloitte, Markel and the Hamilton Princess, for hosting us. Their contributions allowed WeSpeak to subsidise access for all participants, coaches and teens, as well as providing take-home resources including Melissa’s book Help Them Thrive.

“Looking ahead, the Signature Event Series signals the beginning of a renewed chapter for WeSpeak. Plans are underway to launch a new suite of corporate learning offerings, expand its flagship public speaking boot camps, and deliver year-round programming for teen girls – including its public speaking video competition that will give young Bermudians a platform to share their voices with the world.

“But for those who attended, the most immediate takeaway was clear: when women and girls are equipped to lead, speak, and thrive, the whole community moves forward.

“Thank you! I’m feeling rejuvenated,” one attendee shared after the evening event. “It’s so powerful having spaces where women wholeheartedly support other women. WeSpeak, you’re rockin’ it—this is how you come out of a hiatus.
