The Bermuda Public Services Union is proudly celebrating United Nations Public Service Day by honouring the dedication, resilience, and essential contributions of Bermuda’s Public Officers.

A spokesperson said, “Each year on June 23rd, the world observes United Nations Public Service Day. It is a time to celebrate the invaluable role Public Officers play in building stronger, more equitable societies. In Bermuda, this day is an opportunity to shine a well-deserved spotlight on the often-unsung contributions of our dedicated Public Officers.

“At the Bermuda Public Services Union [BPSU[, we are proud to represent the professionals who ensure the efficient and effective functioning of government and public institutions.

“Bermuda’s Public Officers demonstrate daily what it means to serve the public good. Their work is vital, yet frequently performed behind the scenes, without fanfare and often with limited resources, staffing, or support required to meet growing public demands. Despite being asked to do more with less, our Public Officers still execute. Irrespective of budget constraints, workforce shortages, and mounting expectations, they remain steadfast in their commitment to public service.

“The BPSU celebrates their professionalism, resilience, and unwavering sense of duty. We honour the long hours, the intellectual rigor, the ethical standards, and the quiet perseverance that characterize public service at its best. Our members are not only workers; they are nation builders.

“The BPSU remains committed to advocating for the needs and rights of Bermuda’s Public Officers and calls attention to the urgent need to invest in and strengthen the Public Service. To truly honour public servants, we must do more than offer gratitude. The government must ensure their employees are equipped to succeed. That means adequate staffing, fair compensation and benefits, professional development, modern technology, and workplaces that value health, wellness, and dignity.

“Today, we simply say: thank you.

“Thank you for your dedication.

“Thank you for your excellence.

“Thank you for your service to Bermuda.

“As we reflect on the meaning of public service, let us also reaffirm our shared responsibility —as leaders, citizens, and communities — to support those who serve.

“Happy United Nations Public Service Day.”
