City Hosts Fresh Air Films Community Event
The City of Hamilton recently hosted a Fresh Air Films event at Barr’s Bay Park, attracting families and film fans for an evening of blockbuster movies, games, giveaways, and community fun.
A spokesperson said, “The City of Hamilton recently wrapped another memorable Fresh Air Films event, drawing families and film fans alike to Barr’s Bay Park on Saturday, June 21 for a fun-filled evening of blockbuster entertainment, games, giveaways, and feel-good community vibes.
“Fresh Air Films: Sunset Cinema has become a staple on the City’s events calendar, and this year’s installment didn’t disappoint. With sweeping harbour views as a backdrop, hundreds of attendees enjoyed back-to-back screenings of Mufasa: The Lion King and Captain America: Brave New World—all free of charge.
“To attend, families simply presented a receipt showing a $25+ purchase from any City business between May 1 and June 21. The Fresh Air Films series is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to support economic activity in Hamilton. By requiring a receipt from any City business for entry, the event encourages attendees to shop and dine locally—benefiting restaurants, retailers, and service providers. City produced events also create opportunities for local entrepreneurs to showcase their offerings as event vendors, helping to spotlight small businesses and foster a vibrant atmosphere.
“For the first time ever, the event featured live Kahoot trivia—adding a fun, interactive twist between films. The crowd responded with enthusiasm, with players competing for prizes ranging from wireless headphones to a kids’ scooter, and even JBL party speakers for raffle winners. A huge thank you goes out to our vendors who kept the crowd fuelled with movie snacks and treats throughout the evening.”
“We want to thank everyone who came out,” said Lorna Hayward, Senior Events Coordinator for the City of Hamilton. “It was wonderful to see families, friends and film fans enjoying the evening together. We’re especially grateful for the local businesses and vendors who helped make the night such a success.”
The spokesperson said, “The event comes on the heels of the City’s latest satisfaction survey, which showed strong demand for outdoor City events. Nearly 40% of City-based residents said they’d like to see more outdoor movie nights in the City—and the City is listening.”
“Events like this are a reflection of our commitment to building a vibrant, inclusive Hamilton where people want to gather, connect, and create memories,” said Ms. Hayward.
The spokesperson said, “Attendees are encouraged to share feedback by completing a short survey about their experience, available here. Insights from this survey will help shape future Fresh Air Films events.”
