Police: ‘Peaceful & Generally Incident Free’
The Bermuda Police Service said they “wish to thank the public for working with us as we maintained a high visibility policing approach, to make the Heroes Day holiday weekend peaceful and generally incident free.”
A police spokesperson said, “There were several public events put on starting on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 and culminating with the grand carnival parade or Revel de Road, on Heroes Day, Monday, June 16, 2025.
“These events all took place without any reports of major incidents or anti-social behaviour occurring.
“Worryingly, there were four arrests for impaired driving. One such arrest is too many.
“Bearing in mind the legal blood/alcohol limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, the highest recorded reading from this past weekend was 151/100, the lowest, 135/100.
“Also of concern, was a reported assault by two males on another male with a knife being brandished by one of the suspects.
“Members of the public alerted police to the situation. Upon the officers’ arrival, the individual carrying the knife ran off and in the process attempted to dispose of the weapon. However, the weapon was recovered and the subject has since been arrested. The arrest of the second is imminent.”
Superintendent Dennis Astwood, Gold Commander, for the Heroes weekend policing plan, praised the public for their assistance. “I want to take this opportunity to highlight the good work of you the public, in once again helping to avert what could quite possibly have turned into a tragic situation. This is not an exaggeration. Anyone leaving their residence armed with a knife or any other weapon, are not doing so for the purpose of defending themselves, they are doing so with the intent to do harm.”
“The vigilance of you the public and your willingness to take action by alerting your police service to wrongdoing, make for a potent partnership against that minority bent on antisocial behaviour and criminal activity.”
