Island Games: Mosquera Set For Golf Debut

Golfer Sienna Mosquera says she is excited to test herself on European soil for the first time when she represents Bermuda at the International Island Games in Orkney, Scotland.
The 18-year-old will make her Games debut as part of a seven-player team competing on the remote archipelago off Scotland’s north coast.
A student at the Mike Bender Golf Academy in Florida, Mosquera has been fine-tuning her game on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour, where she has delivered a series of strong performances ahead of the four-day event.
The tournament tees off on Tuesday [July 14] at Stromness Golf Club and Orkney Golf Club – two courses expected to offer very different playing conditions than what she is used to.
“I know the conditions will be different, especially with the wind, but I feel prepared,” Mosquera told Bernews. “I just want to play the best I can.
“I’ll have a better idea of a solid plan after the practice round.”
Mosquera added that she will consult with her mental coach ahead of the competition to develop a strategy suited to the unfamiliar terrain.
“It’s going to be a cool experience – competing against different islands is so awesome,” she said. “It’s such an amazing event, and I’m really excited to be part of it.”
This will be her first time representing Bermuda internationally, a milestone she is proud to reach.
“It should be a great experience,” she said. “I feel like I’ve been playing well and gaining confidence from good tournaments recently. I’m also familiar with the other players on the team, so that helps.”
Mosquera is set to continue her golf career at the collegiate level, joining the Lehigh University women’s team in Pennsylvania this fall.
She plans to major in biology while competing in the NCAA Division I Patriot League.
“It’s an exciting time for me,” she said. “I’m very thankful to the BGA for everything they’ve done for junior golf. They’ve supported me a lot.”
