‘Leadership That Acts Before Things Get Worse’
“We deserve leadership that acts before things get worse, not after,” Shadow Minister of National Security, Cabinet Office & Innovation Robert King said.
Mr. King said, “Today I saw something that shook me: signs for sale in a local store. One read ‘No Firearms Permitted on Premises,’ and the other said ‘Your Odds Are Better in Vegas,’ with a body shooting target printed on it. Let that sink in.
“As Shadow Minister of National Security, I find this deeply troubling. Not just because of what it says, but what it means. It suggests that fear is seeping into everyday life in a country that once prided itself on safety and peace.
“The presence of that sign is not the problem, it’s a symptom of one. And that symptom is being ignored.
“This government has had opportunity after opportunity to respond meaningfully to the rise in violence, to strengthen prevention programs, to invest in communities, and to confront the realities of gang activity and illegal firearms. But what we’ve seen instead is complacency, delay, and denial.
“Bermudians deserve better. We deserve leadership that acts before things get worse, not after.
“We must be bold enough to acknowledge that we are in a crisis – and brave enough to fix it.
“I will continue pushing for real solutions, not just reactionary signs and empty reassurances. We cannot allow this to become our ‘new normal’.”
