Letters Of Support For Orkney Games Squad
Bermuda’s International Island Games athletes have received letters of support and best wishes from the Governor Andrew Murdoch and Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, before they head to Orkney, Scotland.
The National Sport Governing Bodies were invited to send representative athletes to Government House, including flagbearer Koa Goodchild, who plays for the Bermuda national women’s football team, and the water-bearer at the opening ceremony David Leach, who competes in lawn bowls.
Also present were Juanita Blee, the Bermuda Island Games Association general secretary, Sean Trott and Phillip Woolins [athletics], Jude Barton [lawn bowls], Dezirae Darrell and Somers Stephenson [badminton], Caleb McDowall, Adrian Trott, Symira Lowe-Darrell, Victoria Davis [football], Jamie McMillan and Sienna Mosquera [golf], and Brian Darling [squash].
The Island Games will be held on the archipelago off the north coast of mainland Scotland from July 12 to 18.
Orkney will welcome around 2,000 athletes from 24 island groups to compete across 12 sports.
It will be the first time in the Games’ 40-year history that Orkney has hosted the biennial event.
