Sail Away Soca Cruise Supports Local Schools

Sail Away Soca’s ‘Link Up’ cruise blended music and community spirit, raising funds for student meals at Dellwood and new youth programs through the Helping Hands Foundation.

A spokesperson said, “This past weekend, Sail Away Soca delivered another sold‑out sensation with their Link Up cruise aboard the iconic Lady Tamara. Powered by Sound Concepts’ immersive audio setup—and Bermuda’s top DJ, DJ Rusty G, curating the soundtrack—it was an unforgettable celebration of soca culture and community spirit.

“Beyond the high-energy party atmosphere, Link Up had a powerful purpose. Sail Away Soca donates 100% of its proceeds to The Stephen Lee Helping Hands Foundation, which collaborates with Jamaican Grill to provide nutritious meals for underprivileged students at Dellwood Middle School.”

“This has been an incredible movement to be a part of,” remarked John Lee, General Manager of Sound Concepts. “It’s always immensely satisfying to see a project come to fruition— but one that not only brings joy and excitement to attendees while also positively impacting Bermuda’s next generation is very special indeed!! What more could you ask for?”

The spokesperson said, “This event was made possible by the generosity of community sponsors like ONE Communications, a longtime ally in Bermuda’s food‑security efforts and a founding supporter of the healthy‑meals initiative. Thanks to their ongoing commitment, plus backing from Sound Concepts, Burrows Lightbourn Ltd, and others, Helping Hands will now:

  • Add an extra service day for Dellwood’s lunch program
  • Launch a pilot “Literacy Through Athletics” initiative at The Berkeley Institute—blending educational support with athletic training and health knowledge for local youth

“We’re proud to support Sail Away Soca for another year,” said Ciara Eve, Marketing Manager at One Communications. “This event continues to bring people together through celebration and purpose—providing healthy meals to Dellwood students and soon to empower youth through Literacy Through Athletics. It’s an honour to be part of this growing movement.”

“We want to expand aggressively!” said Hafid James, spokesman for both Sail Away Soca and the Helping Hands Foundation. “Our dream is to provide nutrient-dense meals to more schools and scale the Literacy Through Athletics program across Bermuda. But we cannot do this alone.”

James issued an open call for further support, “If you’d like to become a community sponsor for our Sail Away Soca events or contribute directly to The Stephen Lee Helping Hands Foundation, please reach me via email at hafid.james@gmail.com or phone at 333‑0032. If Bermuda comes together as ONE, there’s no limit to what can be done.”

He ended on a note of gratitude and unity, “Thank you to our sponsors, our partners—like Henry Thomas of Jumuiya Ya Afrika—for always stepping up, and to every person who attends a Sail Away Soca event. Your presence makes everything possible. Soca is a culture of love and togetherness, and it’s an honour to share that love with all of Bermuda.”
