IDA Bermuda Reach Final In Super Cup
The International Development Academy Bermuda Select have reached the final of the Boys’ Minor Division Bowl final at the Budget Energy Super Cup in Coleraine, Northern Ireland.
They defeated Glenovan 1-0 in the semi-finals yesterday [July 31] thanks to a goal by Adaj O’Brien and will face Scottish side Ross County in the final today.
Richard Todd, the IDA Bermuda head coach, said, “After a steep learning curve through the group fixtures, IDA Bermuda would compile and apply the lessons learned throughout the group games to record their first victory in the boys’ minor division bowl semi-final.
“Defensively IDA kept Glenovan at bay, snuffing out any promising attacks they looked to mount. The score line would remain deadlocked with the teams going into the half time break.
“The second half continued to ebb and flow, with both teams working to find a way to break down each other. IDA introduced Adaj O’Brien into the attack, and the burly striker would prove to be a handful for Glenovan to contain.
“IDA would take the lead with a goal that would stand as the winner from a free kick from just outside the penalty box.
“Cairo Burgess shot at goal would crash against the cross bar and O’Brien would follow up to head in the winner from inside the six box with ten minutes remaining in the match.
“IDA would have to endure a tense period as Glenovan pressed for an equaliser, forcing IDA to defend with gusto to close out the match and advance to the final.”
