David Thomas Hails Jnr Pan Am Athletes
David Thomas, the Bermuda team chef de mission, has hailed the performances of the island’s athletes at the recent Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay.
Bermuda won three medals in Paraguay, with swimmer Jack Harvey winning bronze in the men’s 100 metres backstroke, sailor Sebastian Kempe claiming silver in the men’s one-person dinghy [ILCA 7], and Caitlyn Bobb securing silver in the women’s 400 metres final.
“In what has been an exciting fortnight of competition, activity, and pin exchanging, Bermuda has once again punched above her weight on the world stage, highlighted by three historic medal-winning performances,” Thomas told social media.
“It’s hard not to imagine what could have been, as we were so agonisingly close in what feels like a handful of other chances to increase our tally in the medal table.
“From our archers, cyclists, and sailors, who kicked things off on day one, to our track stars and rugby boys who brought the energy in between, to golfer Oliver Betschart, who rounded out our participation at these Games with an admirable eleventh-place finish on the final day, along with being a flag-bearer with Caitlyn Bobb at the closing ceremony.
“All of our athletes represented Bermuda with grit, determination, and pride. It truly was an honour to see them compete.”
