A spokesperson said, “Polaris Holding Company Ltd. is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2025 Polaris Holding Company Ltd. Education Award [PHCLEA]. Recipients of the PHCLEA, Zyon Minors, Ayr Cannonier and Shanae Harvey are being recognised for their academic consistency and commitment to higher education.
“Presented annually to eligible children of employees of Polaris and its subsidiaries, the $2,500 cash award provides financial support for further education. During their educational journey, recipients may receive up to four awards, which they may apply to tuition, room and board or airfare.
“Returning for her fourth and final award, Zyon Minors is attending the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Zyon is the daughter of Mr. Otis Minors, the Docks Superintendent at Stevedoring Services Limited.
“Last year, Ayr Cannonier received his first PHCLEA to complete the International Baccalaureate programme at the United World College East Africa in Tanzania. This year, he will use his second PHCLEA to pursue a Bachelor of Economics at the University of East London in the UK. Ayr is the son of Mr. Ankoma Cannonier, a Deckman at Stevedoring Services Limited.
“Shanae Harvey is receiving the PHCLEA for the first time to attend the Associate of Arts [Arts and Design] programme at Bermuda College after recently graduating from the Berkeley Institute. Shanae is the daughter of Mrs. Nievah Harvey, Operations Administrator at Surface Experts Ltd.”
As she presented the recipients with their awards, Polaris Chairwoman Ms. Cheryl Hayward-Chew explained the significance of the PHCLEA, stating, “Every individual at Polaris, Stevedoring Services Limited, Surface Experts Ltd, and their subsidiaries is vital to the success of our business and our ability to provide necessary services to Bermuda. We are honoured to give back to our team by providing financial support for their children to attain further education. It is rewarding to see Zyon and Ayr continuing to do well in their studies, and we are happy to offer this award to Shanae for the first time.”
Zyon Minors thanked Polaris for her award, stating, “Receiving this award for four years has been immensely helpful while pursuing my nursing degree. My dad has worked at Stevedoring Services for over two decades, so I’ve grown up knowing the company, and I’m grateful that they have supported me for the duration of my studies.”
Reflecting on his past award, Ayr Cannonier stated, “I had the incredible opportunity to study at UWC in Tanzania last year with the help of the Polaris Education Award. This year, I’m excited to start university in the UK and I will continue to strive for excellence.”
First-time recipient Shanae Harvey stated, “This award will cover most of my Bermuda College tuition for this year. I am grateful to be able to focus on my studies with less financial pressure.”
