A Royal Caribbean cruise ship departing from Baltimore has changed its itinerary to avoid Tropical Storm Erin, skipping Bermuda in the process.

A Baltimore Sun story said, “According to a Royal Caribbean Group spokesperson, the Vision of the Seas cruise will skip Bermuda and head to Port Canaveral, Florida, instead.”

“Along with our meteorologist, we are closely monitoring the progression of Tropical Storm Erin and have made itinerary changes,” the spokesperson said. “We communicated the changes to our guests directly.”

“Tropical Storm Erin is expected to head west-northwest, moving closer to the Northern Leeward Islands over the weekend, according to the National Hurricane Center.

“Officials in the northern Caribbean warned Thursday of heavy rains and dangerous swells as the storm approached the region, according to The Associated Press.

“The tropical storm had winds near 60 mph Thursday morning and is forecast to become a hurricane by Friday, potentially reaching Category 3 by late Saturday, becoming the season’s first major hurricane.”
