Tavares Completes Third BCB Summer Internship
The Bermuda Cricket Board [BCB] has announced the successful completion of Cheyenne Tavares’ third summer internship with the organisation.
A spokesperson said, “Cheyenne is set to begin her third and final year studying Sport Management at Bournemouth University this September. Before that, she will complete a six-week work placement to gain industry experience and apply the knowledge she has acquired at university. She has chosen to return to the Bermuda Cricket Board to conduct her placement, continue her work, and take on additional responsibility.
“In her role as Senior Summer Intern, Cheyenne was primarily responsible for the U19’s logistical preparation as they got ready to embark and participate in the U19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Atlanta, Georgia. She was responsible for coordinating between different management levels to collect and present information required for ICC approval.”
Ms. Tavares stated, “It was really exciting to be leading and assisting on such an important project. One of the things I love about working with the Bermuda Cricket Board is that my work isn’t hypothetical but utilized in the industry. I had a great experience being able to work with Executive Director Cal Blankendal, Head of Administration Samantha Robinson and Team Manager Terry Thomas, putting all the needed pieces together.”
The spokesperson said, “Other projects Cheyenne is particularly proud of include assembling the U19 Player’s Handbook and the 6-Month Donor Report. Both projects involved giving her the creative freedom to present the information while also getting her to rely on her research skills to collect the contents of each report.”
Ms. Tavares stated, “These projects were one of my favorites to work on because I enjoyed piecing together the contents while also being able to play around on Canva to format each project in a way that represents myself and the BCB well. For the U19 Player Handbook, I had to think of how players might act while also reinforcing BCB policies. I particularly liked putting together the Safeguarding sections, as this was an interesting topic I studied in university. I was intrigued to see what the BCB does to protect athletes and to see these practices implemented. As for the Donor Report, I was particularly proud of this project because I was given a rough list of what to include and ran with it to create a well-structured and visually pleasing document. Additionally, this project allowed me to refer back to my previous work with the Bermuda Cricket Board to structure some sections. It felt like a full-circle moment.”
The spokesperson said “Overall, Cheyenne has had a very positive experience with the Bermuda Cricket Board, being able to get a feel of different elements required to operate a business. As her placement starts to come to a close, she leaves the following message, ‘I would like to encourage any student looking to get a feel for sports management and operations to consider starting with the Bermuda Cricket Board. It is an incredible experience that you will for sure learn a lot from.’”
