City Advises On Storm Preparations

The City of Hamilton is urging businesses and residents to complete storm preparations ahead of Hurricanes Humberto and Imelda.

A spokesperson said, “With Hurricane Humberto expected to pass to Bermuda’s northwest on Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning and Hurricane Imelda forecast to bring more severe conditions by late Wednesday night, the City of Hamilton is urging all businesses and residents to finalise storm preparations now.

Waste Collection in the City

• “Please place trash out only at designated collection times [see below schedule].

• “Do not put trash out after collections have taken place.

• “All waste should be placed securely inside bins [not loose bags] to prevent debris from blowing around.

• “With weather conditions still uncertain, service changes may be necessary. We encourage you to check our social media channels for the latest updates.

• “It is illegal to bring household trash from outside parishes into the City. Offenders risk prosecution.

City Operations

• “City parks, car parks, and public bathrooms will remain open until conditions require closure.

• “City crews are actively clearing storm drains and inspecting infrastructure this week to reduce flooding risk.

Safety Reminders

“The City is asking all businesses and residents to secure outdoor items, including wheelie bins, signage, planters, and loose furniture, which could become projectiles in strong winds.

“With unsettled weather expected over the coming days, early preparation is the best way to minimise potential damage. While the most significant impacts are anticipated mid-week, the Island will experience gusty winds and unsettled conditions from now through Friday.

“The public is encouraged to monitor official updates from the Bermuda Weather Service and the Emergency Measures Organisation [EMO].
