Community Prayer Vigil To Be Held On Sept 21

September 19, 2025

St. John’s Anglican Church in Pembroke will host a Community Prayer Vigil for Peace and Protection on Sunday [Sept 21] from 4.00pm to 6.00pm.

A spokesperson said, “Bermuda is grieving. In recent months we have lost neighbours — mothers, fathers and teenagers — in road collisions, and violent incidents have left families shattered and communities shaken. Local police reports and news coverage confirm multiple road fatalities already this year, and concern is growing about ongoing violent crime across the island.

“In response, churches, community groups and concerned citizens are coming together for a public prayer vigil to ask for God’s protection, for healing for the bereaved, and for a renewed commitment to peace and safety across our island.

“You are invited to join us:

  • What: Community Prayer Vigil for Peace and Protection
  • When: Sunday, September 21st between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
  • Where: St. John’s Anglican Church, Pembroke – 127 St. John’s Road.
  • Who: All are welcome — families, faith groups, civic organisations, and everyone who loves this island.

“This is not a political event. It is a solemn and open invitation to stand together — to pray for the victims, to support the families affected, and to ask God to guide leaders, drivers and all citizens toward choices that protect life. The crisis of violent incidents and the rise in weapons-related offences has been widely reported and debated in our community; many feel a deep need to respond in faith and action.

“We will open with scripture and a short time of intercession, followed by a moment of silence and a communal prayer for the island. Please join us as at any time during the hours listed above.

“If you cannot attend, please set aside a moment that afternoon to pray for Bermuda’s streets, its young people, and for wisdom for those who lead and protect us. If you represent a church or community group and would like to participate or add a short reflection, please contact pembroke.rector@anglican.bm.

“Let us come together in hope, grief, and determination — to mourn what we have lost, to pray for those who still need healing, and to commit to building a safer, kinder Bermuda for everyone.”
