A police spokesperson said, “Around 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Police were dispatched to a single vehicle road traffic collision on Harbour Road near the Junction with Highwood Lane, Paget.

“On arrival, officers observed an extensively damaged utility pole and a private motorcar with what appeared to be a piece of the utility pole lodged in the right front wheel of the vehicle.

“EMTs were seen speaking with a female who was later identified as the driver of the vehicle in question.

“Police spoke with the driver, who displayed signs of impairment. She complied with a request for a sample of breath and was administered an Alco-Analyzer exam.

“The driver was subsequently arrested and for driving while impaired and will be appearing before the courts in the coming days.

“The area of Harbour Road where the collision occurred had to be closed off and traffic diverted, while BELCO worked to replace the damaged pole, resulting in significant traffic pileups during the morning rush hour.

“BELCO has issued an advisory indicating the repair work remains ongoing and that the collision scene will remain closed well into the evening commute.

“It is anticipated there will be further traffic delays due to this and police officers will be on the roads monitoring the traffic flow.

“As a reminder, westbound traffic on Harbour Road is being diverted on to Lover’s Lane. Traffic traveling east along Harbour Road, is being diverted from Harbour Road onto Chapel Road.

“Motorists are urged to please follow the instructions of officers, Highways officials and BELCO staff to enable a smooth as possible flow of traffic.

“Where possible, we encourage motorists travelling to the western end of the island, to leave before the start of rush hour or after rush hour, this evening and to use the South Shore Road to get to their destinations.”
