A power outage “likely caused by lightning striking BELCO network equipment” occurred early this morning [Sept 1] in the west end, and BELCO crews have restored power to the majority of customers, however approximately 136 customers remain without power at this time.

BELCO Managing Director, Shelly Leman said: “At approximately 4:41am this morning, customers in the West end of the island experienced a power outage likely caused by lightning striking Bermuda Electric Light Company [BELCO] network equipment.

“BELCO crews responded immediately and have successfully restored power to the majority of affected customers. However, approximately 136 customers in the Watford Bridge, Malabar Road, Mangrove Bay Road, Loyalty Drive, and East Shore Road areas remain without power.

“BELCO advises residents in the affected areas to keep sensitive electrical equipment unplugged while crews continue working to restore power to all customers. Our technical teams are working diligently to restore full service as quickly and safely as possible.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank our customers for their patience during this time.”
