Saltus Remembers 9/11 Victims
Saltus Grammar School held a solemn ceremony to honour alumni Boyd Gatton and Robert D. Higley II, along with Bermudian Rhondelle Tankard, who lost their lives in the September 11th attacks.
A spokesperson said, “At Saltus, we gathered with solemn hearts to honour the memory of two Saltus alumni, Boyd Gatton, Class of 1980, and Robert D. Higley II, Class of 1989, as well as Bermudian Rhondelle Tankard, who tragically lost their lives in the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001.
“This day, 24 years ago, marks a profound and sorrowful chapter in history, one that forever changed the lives of so many around the world. We stand together to reflect not only on the lives lost but also on the resilience and strength of the human spirit in the face of such unimaginable adversity.
“In remembrance of Boyd and Robert, we placed a wreath at the base of this memorial palm tree, a symbol of Saltus Grammar School’s enduring commitment to keeping their memories alive. This commemoration signifies that they will forever remain part of the Saltus family and that their legacy will continue to be honoured within our community.
“As we remember their lives today, let us also extend our thoughts to all who were affected by the events of September 11th, ensuring that the lessons of unity, courage, and compassion endure in our hearts.
“Our ceremony concluded with Captain Sheldon Fox of the Royal Bermuda Regiment playing ‘Taps’ in tribute to the memory of those we have lost.”
